“Chefs do that.” Long Kiss Goodnight is a favorite of mine and I think if more people knew it existed, it wouldn’t have been a flop. I stumbled upon it on cable by accident one night. The Dope is the only place where others besides my husband and I have even heard of it. I think that after the debacle of Cuthroat Island the studio buried this movie. Also, I did not know that Geena Davis was almost 60! Damn, she looks good. ---

I first heard about _Long Kiss Goodnight_ in an article in the now-defunct magazine _Spy_. It was described as an upcoming project by Shane Black, who was noted for his successes in _Lethal Weapon_ and _Lethal Weapon 2_ but also his failures in _The Last Boy Scout_ and _Last Action Hero_. Strangely, _Spy_ seemed to have the impression that the Geena Davis character’s amnesia extended to forgetting that she was actually (or had formerly been) a man, i.e. “she’s a he and doesn’t know it.” Perhaps this was an idea kicked around in early draft, but it would have to have jettisoned when they decided the character had given birth to a daughter. ---

Geena Davis always struck me as a good egg - smart, talented, funny, attractive in an unconventional way. I remember her from _Tootsie_ and _Fletch_ and of course the very good _A League of Their Own. Commander in Chief_ was a failed, one-note and semi-feminist _West Wing_ IMHO, but she wasn’t bad in it. Based on the recommendations here, I’ve now ordered _The Long Kiss Goodnight_ from my library. Thanks! ---
