# What happened to Peter Jackson?!

The preview they have for King Kong in Japan starts off with a message from Peter Jackson.
He’s all emaciated!
I imagine he just went on Atkins or something, and looked funky because he lost a lot of weight quickly or something. But he’s not sick is he?

He lost his weight over a period of six months, in between the end of LOTR and the beginning of working on Kong. He also got his eyes Lasiked. In other words, he’s actually healthier, and not sickly.

I haven’t seen it but I had a quick google and found [this](http://pub.tv2.no/multimedia/na/archive/00186/Peter_Jackson_186458m.jpg) picture. He’s looking good! I wasn’t even sure it was him at first, and then I thought it might have been an old picture but no.

Having grown up with Bad Taste as one of my favourite films, I found both the LOTR Peter and the current Peter unidentifiable!

But yeah, after seeing a few more pictures of him thin and then reseeing the clip, he doesn’t look so odd. I think his hair got bleached a bit by the sun or something, but it made it look like his hair had greyed.

So… he’s lost weight, improved his vision, made tens of millions of dollars, AND you say he’s got a tan??? Leave some good fortune for the rest of us, Peter!

I think that is the biggest factor. Once you have that money, trainers and stylists and doctors are chump change…and that private chef making healthy lunches and dinners, along with your private lap pool and that daily massage from Helga…well, I think we would all look pretty good a year or two later.

I’m happy for him, but that kind of rapid weight loss isn’t good for the ticker. My fiancee had a grad school friend who went the same route: very obese to svelte in less than a year…and then dead when her heart failed during her sleep. And she was only 27 or so.

He played two characters, the [other one had a beard](http://img-tbhl.theonering.net/films/images/bt_image7.jpg). Halfway through the filming he realised he had to play Derek himself because nobody else would, so he shaved the beard off to look distinctively different. He grew it back again immediately after.
