What happened to Thora Birch?--and other actors that seemed to disappear for no reason...

Blast from the Past with Silverstone and Brendan Fraser is worth watching. It’s a rom-com with a silly premise, but it’s fairly charming.

Apparently Joey Lauren Adams has been in some stuff since **Big Daddy **in 1999, but I’ve never seen it. She had a nice run in the 90s withthat, Dazed and Confused and Chasing Amy. I always liked her.

Matter of fact, you could just about go down the cast list of Dazed and Confused and wonder what happened to half those kids.

The Scrubs spinoff only ended in 2010, so I’m not sure he really counts as “disappeared”.

She’s in Suburgatory as the new love interest, Eden…

And of course, all that news about how she pre-chews and spits her baby’s food into their mouth.

… the love interest of the guy played by the guy who played Elton, the guy who sexually assaulted her and abandoned her at a gas station in the Valley in Clueless.

To be fair the end of Kojak was 20 years into his career. A career that had seen him do pretty well as a character actor in a lot of big films and he did A LOT of Kojak stuff for the next 15. Dirty Dozen, Kelly’s Heros and his turn as Blofeld in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service all came before Kojack in a lengthy career. I think he was much more of a situation that Kojak did so well for him that he was fine finishing his career riding that wave as long as he could.

Several years ago, she got the lead in a show called Fearless which, despite the usually golden touch of Jerry Bruckheimer, never aired an episode. Maybe she will have better luck with the new show that she’s in, Perception. It’s another one of those shows which is centered around an oddball brainiac (played by Eric McCormack) who helps solve crimes. It looks worth a try.

Obviously he did so well that he was able to retire to a life of resort hopping, getting huge rewards at casinos, hotels and restaurants with his Player’s Club card.

My impression/WAG is that Reese Witherspoon (born the same year, acting styles very similar, and frankly they could be twins) came along soon after and stole a lot of her thunder.

I would call Reese Witherspoon a twin of Joey Lauren Adams, not of Alicia Silverstone.

No, wait. I’m thinking of Renee Zellwegger.

Ha! See? They’re interchangeable!

I remember reading something once about how James Dean’s death opened the door for Paul Newman, Montgomery Clift and Anthony Perkins.

Not Clift. He was already an established star by the time Dean was in East of Eden. A better example would be Steve McQueen.

All of them and dozens of others pretty much began as acolytes of Brando.

Speaking of actresses whose careers have gone surprisingly cold. Leatherheads will do that do you (if your name isn’t “George Clooney”). Maybe it’s because people keep putting an extra “g” in her name.

Really? I often use Dazed and Confused as an example of a movie where a large part of the young ensemble cast has gone on to greater success.

Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, Renee Zellweger, and maybe Paker Posey are all “name” actors.

And several more have had pretty steady, successful careers in film and television, even if they’ve never been huge stars. Just glancing over the cast list on IMDB, the ones that I recognize right away because of their success beyond Dazed and Confused are Jason London, Joey Lauren Adams, Rory Cochrane, Adam Goldberg, Anthony Rapp, Cole Hauser, and Nicky Katt.

I mean, sure, you can also find some in the cast that didn’t do so great, but I think it’s pretty remarkable how many of them have done very well.

Actually, I think it’s more to do with fact she’s on the wrong side of 40 and there’s a younger doppelgänger named Michelle Williams who can play her roles.

Silverstone’s career got dragged down by the lead weight that was Batman & Robin - along with Joel Schumacher, Chris O’Donnell, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman and basically everyone involved who wasn’t named George Clooney. In her case, this was compounded by the fact not only was she in a giant turd of a movie, she also looked *chubby *in the Batgirl suit.

Shue has apparently been doing TV, with several appearences in CSI. IMDB currently shows her to be quite busy these days:

She’s got 3 kids. I think she took time off to be mommy. She’s nearly 50 now, and she’s still hawt.

I don’t consider Witherspoon to be similar to Witherspoon. Reese has a hardness or flintiness, a coldness. Alicia is softens warm.

Expect a nasty phone call from Aristotle… :stuck_out_tongue:
