I recorded ‘the conversation’ (Coppola. Hackman) a while back and i just got round to watching it. Unfortunately, the tape ran out before the film finished. Can someone tell me what happens at the end. I’d just got to the bit where Hackman’s realised he’s been recording some rich guy’s wife. He’s then counting the money, when…

I don’t recall it entirely, but Harry Caul realizes he’s been set up. He goes to the person who hired him, who implies that they’ll be watching him. Harry returns to his apartment and tears out the walls and floorboards. The final, unforgettable shot shows him in the center of the bare, torn-up room, playing his saxophone.

“They’d kill is if they had the chance.”
