He’s a bail bondsman in Georgia. At a guess, he’s got connections amongst the legal profession and got a good local lawyer to represent him. ---

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, his lawyer is a fellow named Brian Rafferty. He’s a former federal Prosecutor, now specializing in federal defence work, particularly white collar crime. Probably pricy, but he got his client 5 misdemeanours and a $5,000 fine, instead of several felonies and federal jail time, so it was likely money well-spent for Mr Hall. He also promised to testify truthfully in any subsequent proceedings. (The DA office have video of him in the secure area where the voting machines were kept in Coffee county, and he apparently testified to the grand jury that he had unauthorized access to at least one voting machine. He also apparently was working with Sydney Powell, so a different kraken might be unleashed. Maybe one the courts will believe.) Which is one of the very few examples of trump learning from the experience of others. Or equivalently, one of the few examples of trump following the cautionary advice of his hired experts. Clowns though they may be at this point. ---

I saw one article that speculated that Trump is starting to cost the pennies in his legal defences. Up to now, his “litgate everything” tactic worked for him, when he generally had more money than the businesses he was stiffing. Speculation was that he’s starting to realise that the federal government, the Manhattan DA office, the Fulton County DA office, and the NY AG office combined have more money than him. ---

Everyone who knew Trump in 2014/2015 could have told him (and probably did tell him) that actually becoming President would be ruinous for him, given his history. Likewise, I know that I certainly could have told him and probably most good lawyers that he approached did tell him, after he left the presidency, that his old legal strategy wouldn’t continue to work. Back when he was just any other businessman, he could try to run out the clock because he was too insignificant for the courts to pay attention to his legal behavior and because his opponents in court had a smaller legal budget. Even when he’s going against a larger company, usually businesses are going to perform some cost/benefit analysis and decide that it’s cheaper to settle than dump a million dollars into a legal suit against some a-hole. You just blackball him and never do business with him again. But, the US government has an effectively unlimited legal budget, they’re all mostly motivated by a desire to protect the Constitution and the Rule of Law, and **Trump did real bad.** His best legal bet would have been to plead senility° and hoped for the mercy of the jury. ° Yes, I’m aware that that’s not a real legal concept. It can still be done, just not in that succinct and understandable of a description. ---

Just saw this and was heartened by the Georgia GOP’s unexpectedly acting like a real political party and not like an auxiliary chapter of the trump cult. They expelled the state Senator who was calling loudly for Fani Willis to be removed from office from the Republican Caucus.
