No, it was an actual smear that I had to wipe off several times a day. In the upper center of my right lens. And only that side, tho I now have “right field defect” in both eyes. 
Very peculiar, Becky2844. Perhaps your right eye was tearing up more as a result of the vision damage?
Don’t know. There wasn’t any excess tearing tho (in fact, I’ve always had what’s known as “dry eyes.” Cried my first tear when I was in the 7th grade.) It was the upper center. But I’ve always trusted my body so it must have served a purpose. The doctors didn’t know either.
