# What has been done to these weird looking trees?

I’ve seen something similar in a city in western Canada where they’ve fighting some kind of beetle. The trees are ringed with a piece of figerglas insulation and tinfoil about 2 inches wide, to discourage bugs that climb the trunk into the foliage and burrow in to infect the trees.
