What has been the economic effect of Bush's tax cuts?

To answer the OP, I think the total amount people got from the Bush tax cuts, no matter how “big” it might seem to us in absolute terms, is so small in proportion to the total economy that it’s impossible to say what effect it has had, or, contrariwise, where we would be had it not happened.

On the other hand, the clear and explicit accounting effect of it has been to increase the deficit. We also know that it has given middle class people a few extra bucks (no problem with that) and rich people more than a few extra bucks (problem with that).

The downsides are clear and concrete; the upside isn’t. To someone who wants to see genuine tax reform in this country, it hasn’t been a good deal.
