Last week, I turned 30 years old. This week? My wife finally convinced me to sit down and watch “Highlander.” Yeah, you know – “There can be only one”? 1986, that movie came out. And yet, without any purpose, I’d managed never to have seen it until now. Now I know I’m not alone here, fellow Dopers, strange though I may be. Tell me, what great legends of fiction have you managed not to see/hear/read (avoiding it intentionally doesn’t count) that everyone you know has already seen/heard/read? Share with the class, will you? ---

It is with great shame that I admit to not ever having seen what is often cited as being the greatest film of all time, _Citizen Kane_. I also haven’t seen The Highlander, but there are good reasons for that… ---

Just started Catch-22 this past week. I’m going to get to Kerouac later this summer. I need to find a cheap copy of For Whom the Bell Tolls. Also, I’ve never listened to more than five or six minutes of Sgt. Pepper’s. I’ve got Rubber Soul on vinyl for Og’s sake, so who needs it? ---

I never saw any of the Jurassic Park movies. Nor have I seen episodes 1-3 of Star Wars. (I’m sure the latter just caused some Dopers to fall out of their chairs.) ---

I’ve also been semi-avoiding “Gone With the Wind” for some reason. But I’m trying to make a run at some of the classics, so that’s on my list. You’re the second person in recent times I’ve heard say that. I really enjoyed Catch-22 the first time I read it and when I saw the movie. A couple of months ago, a friend of mine gave me her copy when she couldn’t get through it. It took me a week to get through the first 25 pages before I finally just gave up. I also haven’t seen “Titanic”, and I have no particular reason for it other than I simply lack motivation. ---

I’ve never seen Titanic either. I figure that I have enough tragedy in my life without reliving someone else’s. I also haven’t seen The Passion of the Christ and Saving Private Ryan. I’m sure there are more but those are the ones I can think of at the moment. Apparently I don’t get out much. ---

I’ve never seen Apocalypse Now. I also haven’t seen Citizen Kane. Both are on my Netflix list, though, so I will see them eventually. ---

I have never seen a single Audrey Tautou film. Almost caught a few seconds of _Amélie_ once (on a flight), but I fell asleep after eating and before the films came on. ---

It’s been somewhat slow going simply because I don’t have enough time to sit and read huge chunks of it. I think it’s absolutely hilarious, although it’s pretty hard to follow in places.
