I learnt that while spouting catchphrases (eg 1920’s, dogs, grapes, etc) does indicate a degree of social conformity and intimate knowledge of the group psyche - it still doesn’t stop you from sounding like a complete and utter prat. References are essential to any arguement. (Insert cite here) **Q.E.D.** is an intellectual juggernaut. ---

That all our villages have idiots (as well as a complete line in all the other personalities that populate my own). I have learned that if I have a question there is a very good chance that searching the SDMB will turn up the answer, if not I can ask it and get one. ---

I have learned that there are many fascinating people in the world, and that they choose to do many fascinating things with their lives. I have learned what _The Lord of the Rings_ would look like if written by any one of several hundred authors, screenwriters, or songwriters. I have learned how to get a new social security card when I lose my old one. I have learned to drink a glass of water with every meal. I have learned that trying to argue with nasty, self-righteous teenagers on an internet message boards is a complete waste of time. (However, I still forget that one once every so often.) I have learned how to select a pair of running shoes. ---
