What have you named your pets?

My cats have been:

Storm

Guinnevere and Genevieve (sisters)

Felicity

Ulysses

From the cat group: Max, Mokey, Tinker, Mike, Ike, Look-Alike, Stubby, Fatcat, Midnight, Flashcat, Rag-butt, Speedo, Mr. Earl, and Kittenator.

From the parrot group: Sam and BoBirdie.

Turtle - Stanley - brand name on the box he was brought home in
Budgie - Smurfy - he was blue, it was the eighties, I was four…
Guinea Pig - Mr. Greedy - well, he was.
Budgie - Zebby - had some white and black stripes (Zebra, Zebby… I think that was the process)
Budgies - Tweetydee and Tweetydum - I chose the names, but I think Dad suggested them
Mice - Hickory, Dickory and Dock, also Molly and possibly Punky.
Dog - Hoover - watching him eat puts me in mind of a vacuum cleaner
Dog - Memnoch - he was a right devil
Fish - Gerald because I was reading Gone With The Wind, Horace for the ELO song The Diary Of Horace Wimp, Tom… not sure. I just like Tom.
Rabbit - Jasper My suggestion, but Mum’s choice. I was suggesting Simpsons names, but she wouldn’t go with my first choice (Duffman)
Cat - Starvin’ Marvin - stray who was hanging around

Oddly enough, I didn’t name either of the only pets that live with me - my cats, Muffin and PC (Peace) were named by my husband and my friend respectively.

As a kid, I had 2 cats and a hamster. All named out of laziness :

Kitty
KT (Stood for Kitty Two)
Sam

My adult pets :

4 cats:

Trudy - named by my wife for Gertrude Stein
Lisa - Named by me for Lisa Simpson
Butch - Named mainly by my wife because he has a tough-looking mug
Romeo - Named by my wife because he is a loverboy - very friendly.

Joe

A massive blue Russian cat we named Pluto. Not after the dog or the planet but the original.

A striped orange cat was named Reebus Caneebus after a Firesign Theatre bit. Rebus is just the best name for a cat.

I named a dog Pokey after the Pokey little puppy. He really looked like him.

Those were pets I had as a kid. As an adult my tastes have changed. My cat is named Delilah Underfoot. Delilah after that song by Queen and Underfoot because she is. I feel that all cats should be giving vaguely Hobbit sounding last name which are indicative of their nature or personality.

Robin Hood, Littlejohn, Snowshoe, Dirk The Jerk, Hobo, Inspector Cleauseau, Willow, Devil Cat, Quicksilver, Graycie, (Fats) Domino and Echo.

The first five were named before I was on the scene. The last seven were my handiwork and were based on either appearance or behavior, with the exception of Echo, who’s just plain cool. http://new.photos.yahoo.com/karlen1956/photo/294928803221075557/110

Matches - dog
Matches II - replacement dog
Inky - cat
Inky II - cat
(hey, I was five before all these animals were gone.)
Snowball - little white puppy. My dad said he ran away. I believed him until a couple of years ago.
Scamper - dog (he lived 14 years) Don’t know why I named him that
Pen & Pencil - gerbils - they were classroom pets, and I won them in a lotteryy the last day of fourth grade
Pete - cat - Squeaky Pete, actually. He just wouldn’t shut up when we brought him home from the pound
Tucker - dog, originally named Eight Ball by his drug-abusing former owners. I hated that name, and the dog looked like a black lab of the same name that neighbors had, back when I was a little kid.
Rascal - cat. Originally my mother’s cat, I named him when she got him. Now, nine years later, I have this cat, and he sure has grown into his name.

I had a lot more animals, but these are the ones I’ve named.

When my husband and I were first married we got Cesar Romero, our first cat, from a pet store. He was a sweet cat, but clumsy, and after a few weeks was dubbed Noodlehead and later just Noodle. He was basically my husband’s shadow. The man who hated cats grew to love him so much that when Nood died in 2004 at nineteen hubby became a quivering mass who could not be consoled. Of course, it was the same for me. e was part of our family for nearly twenty years.

Jinxy, we got in 1987. he was a stray who came to our big sliding doors and begged to be let in. What could we do? e was about six months old then, I liked the name JInx from the comic strip so that was that. he died in 1997 from a liver ailment.
Here are the ones who are still with us:

Calista: 9 years old. Yes, named after that Calista.
Sasha: 5 years old. I just love the name.
Damon: 4 years old. For Damon Runyon.
Emma: 4 years old. Love the name.
Otto: 3 years old. I heard a while back that cats respond to sharp vowel sounds and tried to name them accordingly.
Abigail(Abby): 1 year old: Love the name.
Jackson: 1 year old. Another name I like.

So, I guess basically I name them what I would give to chidlren if I had them. And I think all of these names are better than Tiffany or Lakeesha or Blue Denim.

Eta: tried to fix all the caps but might have missed some, c’est la vie.

**Snuffy **- Chihuahua / Beagle mix. Named after Mr. Suffleupagus from Sesame Street. Wanted to call him Snuffles originally, but my mother nixed that for stupid reasons.

**Dancer **- Irish Setter-mix. I had the name picked out before I found her. She fit the name. (I realize this is an odd way to do it).

**Merlin **- Beagle / Corgie mix. I was really into Arthurian legend at the time.

**Belle **- She turned out to be a pit bull mix (despite what they said at the shelter). Sweet dog until she almost ripped my hand off, causing her to depart our home immediately. Name came from the kids being heavily into Disney.

**Jasmine **- Shetland Sheepdog mix. She and Belle came to our house at the same time. She and Belle left at the same time when she almost ripped my leg off at the same time in the incident where Belle was tearing my hand off above. Same Disney reference.

**Max **- Golden Retriever / Britney Spaniel mix. I just wanted a simple name with no references to anything. Turns out that the Grinch’s dog was Max, but that was not the reason our Max was named that.

**Arthur **- Beagle / Corgi mix. He got his name because he was so close to Merlin. No one seemed closer to Merlin than Arthur - so the name was obvious.

It was too late to edit again, but when I opened the thread I swear I thought it said “What have you named your cats”? So I want to assure everyone all my pets are indeed cats.
