Last week, I caught a large spider in a glass and took pictures of it for an “identify this spider” thread in GQ.
On Saturday, I went out to the back yard to monkey with the sprinkler, and a _VERY LARGE CREATURE_ suddenly became _FWUP-FWUP-FWUFF_ airborne, apparently startled by my approach. I froze in shock, and a second or two later I realized that the creature was a sizeable hawk or other bird of prey that had caught a pigeon and was now eating it on my lawn. It looked bizarre when it took off because the dead and partly dismembered pigeon was dangling from its claws, which creates a really weird animal profile at first glance.
It went to the other end of the yard, and I went to get the camera.
By the time I got back, it had gone over the fence into the neighbor’s yard, which means my pictures are probably not very good. I’m intending to start another “identify this critter” thread in GQ, because I’m curious about what kind of raptor was in my yard chowing on skyrat, but I have to get the pictures out of the camera and into the computer to see whether or not they’re clear enough for potential identification.

The strip of grass in our yard between my neighbor’s fence and our coldframe, that the neighbor sprayed with weedkiller and killed. If she’d sprayed another six inches into the coldframe and gotten the vegetables, I would have called the police and had her charged with assault, or attempted murder. As it was, the city building inspector she sicced on us said we could have a civil case against her. The photos are in case she ever harasses us again.

1. Apparently the vacum pump has inop or the gauge was.
2. Unless you under instruction from ATC, you were not high enough over the housing area and since you were not climbing or decending, it does not appear that you were manuvering to reamain clear of a birthday cake. (control zone)
