What I truly want and need are new clothes of all types. I have a lot of trouble buying that stuff for myself, so there’s no way anyone else will be able to buy it either. I like books, but I already get what I want right away, and besides, I don’t have any more room! I could use some more spare time… I’d like to have a different car… Oh, forget it. Just give me a friggin’ calendar or something. ---

I want a digital camera, a gen-u-wine Black Forest cuckoo clock, a pair of Longlocks hairsticks, and a down comforter. What I’ll actually _get_ is bubble bath, kitchen towels, and a 100% acrylic sweater. Fortunately, Dad always gives me cash, so maybe after Christmas I can at least get the comforter. ---

I want a serging sewing machine. It’s actually for charity sewing I do (adaptive clothing for injured soldiers), so even though it’s expensive it’s in a good cause, right? That’s about five times bigger than what I usually ask for, but it’s also a lot less than what I’d _really_ like, which is one of those several-thousand-dollar fancy embroidering sewing machines. I guess I need to buy a lottery ticket for that one. ---

I already got what I want for Christmas. A job in the States - I’m moving to Maryland in December and I’ll finally be able to go on dates with my boyfriend without needing to buy a plane ticket first! But I’ve still got a long wishlist; it’s mostly things I’ll be needing for my very first apartment. Shower curtain, bed linens, hair dryer, simple tools, things like that. Now the trick will be teaching Mom how to use [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com) to find my wishlist and buy stuff to send to me. Considering I still have to remind her now and then how to send an attachment with an e-mail, I get the feeling I’ll be getting a check instead. ---

I **know** there’s different schools of thoughts on that, and I don’t want to start a war, but it hurts the giver when that happens. Especially when, as you say, careful research is done beforehand. **Antigen** , freecycle is very good around the Annapolis area, if that’s where you are; you can probably pick up a _lot_ of your wish list stuff for the cost of gas to run pick it up. We just got Papa T. one of the top items on his wish list from a fellow freecycler, a _beautiful_ oak roll-top desk. Saved us a couple thousand bucks (that we weren’t going to spend on a roll-top desk any time in the near future anyway). Regifting isn’t always bad. My sister went through stuff my mom has had squirreled away for many years, and has come up with what I suspect will be fabulous gifts for most of the family, things that have a sentimental attachment as well as probably some organizational effort on her part. I can’t wait to see what I’m being regifted with! ---

There’s not much I want this year. I would, however, like to go to Vegas for our 10th anniversary in January. This is so not gonna happen. I could also stand to rip out the paneling in my living room and replace it with beautiful, smooth dry wall that can be painted to suit my whim. That ain’t happening either. ---
