I wouldn’t want to be in charge of what programming gets put on the air, because there’s always something I’d never thought about which turns out great. But I would like to be in charge of what gets renewed or cancelled.
I’m still pissed Starved got cancelled but It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia got renewed. And people have the gall to compare it to Seinfeld? Who gives a crap?
Give us back our Dark Angel. Give us back our Birds of Prey. Give us back our Special Unit 2. Give us back our Level 9. Give us back our Lexx. Give us back our Farscape. Give us back our Firefly. Give us back our Lost World. Give us back our She Spies. Give us back our Futurama as a regular TV series. Give us back our Honey West. Give us back our Wonder Woman, this time maybe with Rose McGowan as WW. Give us back our Girl from Uncle, maybe with Drew Barrymore as April Dancer.
We want it all back, with interest. So throw in a few of those series ideas you turned down, like the one to have Jenny McCarthy starring in a modern parody of Honey West, in which she plays an actress in an old 60s series about a female detective whose basic investigatory technique is to get captured by the bad guys.
That’s the exception and not the rule: Hitchcock, Scorcese, Spielberg, Burton, Tarantino. Cameron, maybe. Oliver Stone, maybe. Lucas… probably not on this list, because he doesn’t direct except for “Star Wars.”
Who directed “Armageddon?” “Liar Liar?” Did people really go see “Home Alone” because it was Chris Columbus directing it, or because it was a cutesy stupid show that appealed to them?
No more cancelling shows after only 3 episodes. Every show gets a second showing, because there’s not enough TiVo in the world to keep up with everything.
The true crime scaremonger shows (Dateline NBC, 48 Hours Mystery) might just mysteriously vanish, as would all clip shows other than Maximum eXposure.
The return of Firing Line, & the ** Firing Line** debates, where people who disagreed could argue in a dignified fashion. (Yes, I know that was PBS, I’m just saying.)
Also, **Happy Hour ** & Smith would still be on the air this year. (See paragraph 1).
