What industry is most built on bluff and bull feathers?

A little, but if you wear it and wash it a lot, not so bad.

I see so much of this on Instagram and so much of it is absolute trash. I always wonder what makes people think they’re qualified to offer life advice to others-- and if they think they’re actually helping anything other than their own wallet?

That was a great analogy, and for that, I salute you.

You’ll know that some product based on a fruit or vegetable has gone too far into snobbery when they talk about the terroir of whatever it is. According to Wikipedia, besides wine, the term is now applied to “… coffee, tobacco, chocolate, chili peppers, hops, agave (for making tequila and mezcal), tomatoes, heritage wheat, maple syrup, tea, and cannabis.” I’m sure figs are not far from making that list.

Have we mentioned mattress companies yet?

They show scary pictures of mites, say that half your mattress are these huge scary bugs, and you have to replace it every 7 years or something.

Yep. I’ve worked for twenty years in the biggest corporate law firms in the country.

The chairman of the financial services department of one, who had a couple of big investment banks as clients, had a motto.

It was “it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.”

At least one manufacturer of air filtration devices is using the same ploy in a TV ad, showing a dense shower of airborne mites in a living room.
There’s plenty of bullshit in that industry.
