I worked with a woman named Anita, who would correct anyone who pronounced her name without the hard “T” sound. I hate her. There’s no other reason why. Now I work with a woman named “Megan,” who insists that it’s pronounced “Meegan.” How can she not realize she’s pronouncing her own name wrong?! ---

Many immigrants coming to the midwest have never seen winter before so are unaccustomed to how to deal with it. My neighbors from the Phillipines had never had a house with a furnace and didnt know how to use it. Someone told me he was working someplace when an Asian family came up and asked him to check their house and see why it was so cold. He went and looked at the furnace. It wasnt turned on. He asked them and they had been living there for a couple years and had no idea what that “thing” was. So he turned it on. Well a couple days later they complained about their high gas bill. He checked and their thermostat was set at like 85 or something which they loved. He explained though about gas heat and the costs and how to set a comfortable temperature on their thermostat that wouldnt cost too much. Plus how to keep doors closed and heat in. They were nice people though and rewarded him with the best ethnic food he’d ever eaten. ---
