Those people at work who think that being nice means I have to do their work for them. Sorry but it’s almost always women in my experience. The niceness evaporates suddenly when they don’t get what they want. Her: I’m just not a technical person. \. Could you do this for me? Me: That’s your job and I’m busy. Her: But you’re so smart. It would be so easy for you. Me: Sorry but you get paid the same as me, it’s your job and like I said, I’m busy with own work. Her: You tech guys are all stuck up assholes. ---

Basically everyone on the subway that isn’t me. But most especially people ahead of me on a crowded car who step in, eye a big juicy open seat waiting just for them, and, assured that their space is secure, take a nice leisurely stroll over without a care in the world. In the meantime, I’m stuck behind them watching helplessly as every other open seat fills up with the efficient folks from the other door. So now I have to stand, and I get to be mad all over again at all of the theatrics that people go through to pretend that they don’t see the obviously pregnant woman staring them down as they sit in the reserved seating. Sorry, lady, but your plan to just turn and stare at the wall so that you can claim not to see me isn’t all that convicing. Seriously. All of them. They are all terrible. ---

Maybe it’s because you’re a guy (I think)? I’m “the tech person” and I get people doing this of both genders. More women, but I work with about a third more women than men, so it’s probably about the same ratio when you account for that. I wish I could tell them it’s their job and not get fired, though… ---

People who openly talk about how terrible their life is, or how much they hate their current situation, and… 1. Bring it up in every. damn. converation 2. Don’t actively do anything to change it. No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to work here…either quit, find a new job, get an education or something. And if you can’t? Then don’t try and get sympathy from me in every goddamn conversation we have ---

This is going to sound cruel, but I can’t people who can’t fake a little bit of self-confidence in the workplace. Especially women. I always feel like an arrogant asshole domineering bitch when I’m around these people. I really don’t like being the only one who’s coming up with all the ideas. I don’t like doing all the talking either. But that’s what ends up happening because the low-self-esteemers are too busy badmouthing their intelligence or their skills or whatever to be of any use. I totally understand having low self-esteem. I suffered from it myself for a long time. But the thing is, I hated feeling this way. So I worked hard to develop some competencies and now I feel okay about myself. I can’t imagine feeling inadequate but not doing anything about it. I also don’t understand why anyone would broadcast it in a setting where competency matters. You don’t have to “fake it till you make it”. But you do have to stop telling me and everyone else you’re not good enough. If you keep telling me that shit, one day I might actually agree with you. ---

People who own homes that can’t manage even the most basic home maintenance. There is a special place in hell for the ones that can’t be bothered to things themselves then bitch about when tradesmen charge them for the service. 'I had no heat so I called the heating guys, all they did was change the filter! They charged me a hundred and fifty bucks. They told me I should be changing it every few months. I’d lived hereally two years how was I supposed to know to do that. ’ You shouldn’t own a home go live in an apartment or something. ---

A number of years ago, there was a local woman who gave birth to a baby with serious heart problems. There was an experimental surgery which could save the baby’s life, but the woman had no money to pay for it. Several doctors and other professionals donated their time and expertise to perform the difficult surgery, and the baby survived. A reporter commented to the mother that she must feel very grateful. The mother replied, \*“Yes. I want to thank all the churches who prayed for my baby.” \* I hate people like that. ---

People who, having done whatever in a single place (which may mean a single company or factory), are absolutely convinced that everybody does it like that… those bring rolleyes. But the ones who insist that it’s impossible for anybody else to do it any other way, those bring a strong desire to grab them by neck and pants-seat, kick them out the door and leave it open for someone with a functioning brain. Oh, and people who expect things Outside to be the same as Back Home. There are gripes about Outside which are perfectly legitimate, but “they don’t speak my language” or “they cook funny” are not among them. ---
