Ok, Dopers…what characteristics define a ‘chick drink’, and what are some examples? I know there’re a lot of varying opinions on this (one friend of mine insists that anything other than a shot-and-a-beer is a chick drink - even a shot or a beer alone), but when somebody says, “chick drink”, what do YOU think of? ---

I define a “chick drink” to be anything that’s sweeter than a Caramello Bar, a few aren’t but you get the idea. A Butter Baby is an example. Ummm, most men don’t partake in Daquiris (some do but it’s primarily a chick drink.) Those nifty premixed drinks that wishbone mentioned. Oh and most of them are colorful and pretty. As a real chick \< snort \> I drink beer. 😉 Oh my favorite “chick drink” is a Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum with RW Knudsen’s Pineapple and Coconut juice. I call it a tech colada because I use a natural sweetened juice and no ice. Dude drinks tend to be strong alcohol flavored (brandy, martinis, gin and tonic etc…) While many women drink those too, I find most men tend to stay away from the sweet stuff. ---

Lemme’ add to that … - Drinks with funny names, i.e. “Sex on the Beach,” etc. - Light beer. - Drinks colored pink or purple. ---

elmwood, FTR \< giggle \> I drink full flavored beers. My fav being Molson Ice (more bang for your buck) but love a good dark beer once in a while and other hand crafted beers. I do like fruity beers, a good rasberry ale is definately chick-like but have turned many men onto Frambrosen which is a beer by New Belgium located in Ft. Collins, Colorado. They only brew it in October. ---

Anyone ever see the Kids in the Hall skit about the “Chick Drink Drunk”? This guy got hooked on chick drinks at a party and soon he couldn’t stop drinking them. He’d smuggle a blender into the office closet and hide umbrellas in his desk drawer so he could make a drink on the job. ---

In between wrassling barracudas, down in Havana and Key West. Not Strawberry or Mango or Tutti-Frutti ones, but the original…rum, lime juice, and a little sugar. ---

Most fruity blended drinks kick ass. Plus there is nothing better when eating Mexican food than a Margarita. Piña Coladas, Daqueries, and those funky blended drinks that have kiwi or some other obscure fruit in them are definitely a treat. If I have the extra two dollars to spend I will definitely indulge. ---

Wishbone, I don’t know a man (or woman) who drink that don’t like margaritas. I mean the traditional margs anyway. I think because they have a sour quality with the slightest bit of sweetness (very slight) that makes it a universal drink. Oh and I just thought of another universal drink…while not technically a drink (or is it?) the old jello shots! Very few men and women I know pass on them. Usually they are non-drinkers. 🙂 ---

Strike that. It’s really stupid to sell alcoholic beverages w/o a license so let’s not get off on the illegal aspect of it and risk having a perfectly harmless thread get locked because I messed up and mentioned something about selling them at an outdoor show. Mea culpa. ---

When I talk about a chick drink, I mean any drink that is designed to hide the taste of the alcohol rather than enhance it. So a real margarita isn’t a chick drink, because it definitely tastes like tequila, but the frozen strawberry kind is a chick drink for sure. I think some drinks get an unfair rap as a chick drink – a good planter’s punch is a wonderful way to showcase the rum, although the name “punch” seems to push it into the chick drink category. ---
