Being a chick, I used to drink “chick drinks” when I first started drinking - typically very sweet but often strong drinks. Now I either drink wine or shots. And as ChiDopers can attest, I generally do pretty damn well with the shots. Didn’t even flinch from the Jagermeister. 😉

White Russians.

I knew a couple of guys who drank them, and they were definitely not men. Here’s a story: These two bozos I had the misfortune of knowing went into a local dive bar here in Buffalo and requested 2 White Russians. The bartender said he couldn’t make them (didn’t want to get cream in the bar sink.) SO, these jerks went down to the corner, bought milk, and went back to the bar with it. The drinks, needless to say, were watered down crap, and I certainly hope they contained bartender spittle, because these two were JERKS. I’m a girl, and I wouldn’t even consider drinking a White Russian.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Yes I will concure (sp) that a strawberry marg is pretty much a strickly a chickly drink…haha, sorry I have been drinking all night with a beer but a strawberry marg is certainly a chick drink.

Gimmie a shot dude…I don’t need one but I want one.
Chick drinks are altered and tastes too fruity for my tastes, so is my experience.

Bingo.

Once again, **delphica** neatly and concisely addresses the heart of the question, like Chuang-Tzu and the butcher.

I think the term “dive bar,” when used with “Buffalo,” is redundant. 🙂 (Slight hijack – the term “dive,” when associated with a drinking establishment, originated in Buffalo. An ancient watering hole along the Erie Canal was named “Dug’s Dive,” because the bar was lcoated in a basement and you had to “dive” under the top of the door frame to get in.)

Chick drinks in Buffalo? About as common as yuppie food in that city. Buffaloians like their food and alcohol “old school” – restaurant menus are throwbacks to the 1940s and 1950s, and being a bartender there usually doesn’t involve much beyond pouring shots and opening and closing beer taps.

As for finding a chick drink in Buffalo … maybe one of the suburban dance bars where you’ll find a **Kiss 98** parked in front on weekends?

A bad white russian is a chick drink(although for the life of me I can’t figure out how people make bad white russians) But a good one is just a great smooth finisher for after dinner .

I also put Long Island ice tea into that category. Most places serve long islands that are simply a high ratio of alchohol quantity to alchohol taste, for people who don’t like the taste of alchohol. But I have had some trully excellent Long Islands that were an amazingly complex blend of tastes. A Long Island like that, I take out of the chick drink category and consider it to be a unique masterpiece of an alchohol artist.

ROFL! That was my first thought - but The Dude likes them! They can’t be a Chick Drink!

A good White Russian is a lovely drink. Black Russians, too. Ymmmm… Might have to have one tonight…

I was recently having a conversation with a friend in which he claimed that a whiskey sour was a chick drink because the sour mix contained sugar. I objected on the grounds that it was whiskey after all, and the whiskey flavor is far from being completely hidden (if well made). What’s your call on this?

[sub]Choco-Choochoo![/sub]

Also, I will second Amaretto Sour. Good god, I’d never tasted alcoholic liquid candy till I sipped one of them. Whiskey Sour, on the other hand–while not my drink of choice–isn’t a sugar bomb with EtOH added.

Anything with whipped cream is a chick drink… However, when on vacation, or any situation that allows for drinking in the morning(like I need the excuse). Nothing goes down better than a Frozen Mudslide. Minus the whipped cream, of course.

Not sure if I qualify as a ‘chick’ the way you mean it or not, but…

1. single-malt, smokey flavor scotch, warm and neat. Don’t put any damn ice in my whiskey! (Why does the barkeep always want to do that?) And not Glenfiddle something. More like an Oban or better.

2. a good blended scotch with fresh-made real lemonade, unsweetened. Not only good, but damn good. Any decent blend will work since you’re diluting anyway. But only the diluting liquid should be chilled. Not the whiskey, please!

3. 2 fingers Jamaican rum, 1 finger cocunut milk, and the rest of the glass topped with fresh pineapple juice. No name for it, but I had it in Negril last week. Definitely a sweet drink, but watch out. It’ll sneak up on you.

4. 2 fingers of a blended scotch, fill with Coke, tastes like a good red wine (without the hangover I only get when I drink red wines - now I avoid those).

That’s about all. I don’t do beer or fancy cocktails.

Sometimes chick drinks can be pretty fierce. For example, the Peppermint Patty, a definite chick drink in my group:

1 shot 80 proof Peppermint Schnapps
Hershey’s chocolate syrup, in the squeeze bottle.

Fill mouth to desired level with syrup, shoot schnapps. Marvel at taste.

These seem to be the common threads through most of these posts:

1. Chick Drinks have fruit in them; or
2. Chick Drinks have the taste of the alcohol masked; or
3. Hi Opal!
4. Chick Drinks are sweet; or
5. Chick Drinks are blended; or

Any combination of the above.

Strength of the drink, however, is immaterial. Some Chick Drinks will knock you on your ass, others are strictly lightweight material.

By this definition, then, is a mai tai a Chick Drink?
