And it isn’t worth it. The gold account runs me about $40 per year since I buy it online. But I’ve bought 3 so far, so already I have gone through $120. I don’t do any xbox gaming so I really only use it for netflix and occasionally last.fm. But I can get last.fm on my PC and ipod touch.
I can buy a used PS3 for $200 on craigslist and get the netflix for free.
PS3 is said to have subtitles on select films as Netflix works to expand that selection. I haven’t seen a list or anything of the titles with any new features (subtitles, 1080p, 5.1 sound, etc.).
I’ve checked the TV settings, and that doesn’t seem to be it. Unless it -just- does that for Netflix. Games seem to look just fine. The XBox has a gold account anyway, since we’re big gamers. And, as previously mentioned, browsing the menus with the wiimote kinda sucks. Are the Xbox ones a little clearer?
The resolution of Netflix movies for the Wii also seems poor.
Looks like this may be a good comparison (though I don’t think it has the new Wii interface introduced recently):
Frankly, I’m slightly impressed with the Wii from that - I thought it would be a lot worse. I have a Wii, and never gave it a chance since I have a PS3.
I do too! I watch in bed, and it’s really handy - incredibly smooth. It crashes every now and then, but I just have a 3G.
Just as an update, netflix just released a software update for the Xbox 360 a few days ago. Now you can search the instant streaming library from the xbox 360. So it is much better now.
I don’t know if the PC even has subtitles and the PC has all the options. That is one of the biggest criticisms I have heard about netflix though (the lack of subtitles), so I am sure they are working on it.
I use a Wii for watching instantly on an HDTV and was a little worried about the resolution or picture quality but it’s perfectly acceptable in my opinion. Anything that’d be real eye candy, I just use my traditional Netflix membership option and have it mailed to me on Blu-Ray. One thing I did do was get an ethernet-to-USB adapter and wire my Wii directly to the router so stuff loads up a lot quicker.
Since they upgraded their software to the downloadable client, there’s a search bar now so I don’t have to hit my PC to add stuff to my queue. It’s not perfect but the couple time I used it, it worked well enough. It’s better than the old “on disc” client where I could only scroll through my queue or their selections.
