Another thing - most LED flashlights are unregulated. They are at the peak brightness when used with a fresh set of batteries, but it gets dimmer and dimmer as the battery is used up. But it may not look dim because it still emits bluish white light, unlike a halogen bulb running on dying batteries. This probably contributes to the notion that LED flashlights are dim. Every time I replace batteries in my LED bicycle taillights, I’m amazed how much brighter it is with fresh batteries.
