I’m surprised to be the first one to point this out, but **no** , things **are not** getting to the point. The situation has always happened since the beginning of time, and things have been slowly improving, not getting worse. It only \*seems \*like it’s getting worse because our society has started to refuse to tolerate it anymore. Because of that, when molestation happens, it’s a lot more likely to become public and be addressed, as opposed to in the past, where it was ignored and swept under the rug. This is not some new phenomenon - the further back you go in history, it’s almost certain that the rate of child molestation was much higher than it is now. Things are getting much better than they used to be, now that people don’t willfully ignore the problem out of a misguided sense of propriety and embarrassment, and children are taught what is, and isn’t, acceptable behavior from adults. ---

Barbara Tuchman had an interesting take on this in _The March of Folly_ with regards to the decadence and corruption of Renaissance Italy. _Someone_ must have cared about purity and fidelity or the corruption and scandals would have been so everyday as to not be worth recording. OP, look in the court system of now versus oh, say, 1900. When men in theory had total power over women and children of their family. I bet you’d find a lot more cases against men for family issues now then back then. Does that mean that men abused their family _less_ back then? No, because it was assumed that they had that right so it wasn’t even made into a big deal. ---

Perhaps you recall the “recovered memory” foolishness in the 90s that got so many innocent men sent to prison? If not, a bunch of quack psychologists would encourage patients to “recover” memories of outrageous sexual abuse they’d never actually experienced and were contradicted by easily established facts. This fed into the Satanic Panic in which such quacks would persuade children to come forth with horrifying “memories” of being abused in Satanic rituals by parents, teachers, and respected members of the community. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were still some guys doing time because of these witch doctors. In divorce cases, husbands are frequently accused of molesting the children. The accusation is easy to make, difficult to disprove, and haunts him forever. I had a landlady whose son went through a messy divorce. His ex accused him of molesting the children, had him arrested, and made it plain to his mother that she’d drop the charges once she got ten thousand dollars. There’s a lot of hysteria surrounding the sexual abuse of children. And there’s a lot of misandry in your post.
