Yes, I’ve heard this from a number of people I know interested in genealogy. I have to say also, there’s something that appeals to me about the notion, despite my belief we ain’t got nothing ahead of us but rotting.
I’m not a subscriber of “covering your bases” since there’s too many possible gods with contradictory beliefs for me to be able to. But if others want to cover my bases for me, by all means :p. I mean, if it turns out they’re wrong I doubt the fact that somebody else baptized me is really MY fault, even in a crazy Chick Tract world where God is a raving unforgiving psychopath (though in that case I’d have more problems than just that…), especially since it’s posthumous.
Hell, at least they’re trying to a good deed, even if it’s misguided. And at least this misguided good deed is harmless compared to some of the other good deeds the LDS has attempted as an organization, with the side-benefit of legitimate genealogical research too!
I don’t know about Stalin and others. But Hitler has had his proxy ordinances performed. Admittedly, this siteis very anti-Mormon. But this oneincludes a scan of Hitler’s official LDS genealogical record.
