This is a modern phenomenon. Sure, the back pocket provides easy storage and quick removal for calls, notifications, etc, but…men don’t do this, I mean, at ALL. So I started thinking about it, and I cannot help but think this is a way for women to draw attention to their ass in some weird way. Women could put it in their purse, clip it to their hip, or fuck, just hold the damn thing in their hand…but no! Into one of the back pockets it goes, usually the right one. Any thoughts on this? I find it…odd. ---

Dude. Most women’s pants don’t have front pockets. So either she carries it in her purse, or she puts it in a back pocket. Where do _you_ keep your phone? ---

Putting in your purse means dropping it in to a black hole. Clipping it on your belt means you are a huge dork. Putting it in your side pockets means you are actually a man and have pockets big enough for cell phones. Putting it in your back pocket means you want quick access, you want to be able to feel it vibe so you can answer it, and it means you are wearing women’s pants where the only pocket big enough for your phone is on your butt. It’s not a conspiracy. ---

I agree it looks rather odd, and i’m always amazed that they don’t sit on the phones and crush them. But, as others have noted, if you want access to your phone, it is a convenient place, especially if you don’t have a decent front pocket. I work at a university, and a cellphone in the tight back pocket of a pair of women’s jeans is basically a part of the campus uniform. ---

I try to only buy pants with decent front pockets and it takes vigilance and determination. I was recently fooled by pants that looked like they had decent sized pockets, but although the pockets were, indeed, nice and wide, they had maybe three inches of depth. I could squeak a phone in if I turned it sideways and didn’t want to get it out quickly. I’m going to admit that I’ll put my phone in my bra before I put it in my rear pocket. ---

No, we are not doing it to call attention to our asses. There is a pocket. For me, it’s often my only pocket (well, there’s also the one on the right, since I usually tuck it into the left pocket if I’m using back pockets). Oh, sure, I’d rather put it in my inside breast pocket. Oh wait, I don’t usually HAVE an inside breast pocket. And my hip doesn’t have a clip, and anyway, I don’t see how this would be any better than the hip pocket, as far as some people, you know who you are, thinking it’s calling attention to part of my body. I would study where my son puts his phone, but as it turns out, his phone is never out of his hand, unless it’s charging. Kids today. ---

I for one are all for woman’s pockets. They take way to f’n long to find anything, and anything that can make that easier I’m all for. Liberate them, as we are sick and tired of waiting for you and it is only hunting us. ---

I’ve got sour news for the OP. I’m a man and I carry my phone in my back pocket all the time. Especially at work. I’m on my feet all day and I often get a chance to listen to podcasts, so … where the hell else am I supposed to put it? Wallet’s in right rear, keys and change in right front, cash in left front. What else am I supposed to do - carry my phone around in my teeth? However, if you’d like to check out my ass, who am I to stop you? ---

I see men with cellphones in their back pocket at work all the time. However, men’s asses are not the same as women’s asses and the cellphone doesn’t show up as prominently against a man’s ass. I also see women with hijabs with their cellphone tucked in the scarf near their ear, sort of like an improvised blue tooth. It’s certainly hands-free. Works for them. ---

This is primarily the reason why I wear men’s jeans almost exclusively. They actually have pockets deep enough to hold an iPhone! ---

Interesting about the guys who put stuff in their back pockets. I never do. I find my front pockets are big enough to carry change, keys, and wallet all in one pocket. So image plenty of room to put my _tablet_ in my other pocket. And my cheapo phone. Pockets are just huge with men’s clothing. Or, at least, with the kind I have. And sitting on things is uncomfortable. ---

I have lost things by putting them in my back pocket, because walking made them work their way out. I don’t usually carry a purse, so I make sure my pants have big enough front pockets, or I don’t buy them. ---

Yeah, we don’t _have_ front pockets most of the time. No, not even a lot/most of our jeans. I have ONE pair of pants that have front pockets. It SUCKS! ---

Beware!! my lil’wrekker was un-assed from her iphone by a Wiley pickpocket in a mall, she never knew it happened til she went to use it. The CCT at mall showed a man standing close behind her looking in the window of a clothing store, when he moved away her phone is obviously gone. And she don’t wear loose jeans. They’re skinny tight. ---
