I wouldnt say that but he talked alot about his money issues and how he thought his Phd should be worth so much more.

The one thing I lose respect for is if they break their marriage vows and commit adultery. Especially if their spouse is a good, decent person and they just cant keep from whoring around. If they cannot keep their promise and stab someone in the back (then take their money) why should I ever trust them?

Oh yeah, this too. Years ago, I was going to have my 14 and a half year old dog put down in the morning, and was walking across the parking lot at work crying. A co-worker came over and asked what was wrong; I told her, and her response was, oh well, it’s just a dog, you can always get another one. It literally took all I had not to punch her. I replied with, oh, really? What if one of your sons gets hit by a bus? how would you like it if I said oh, it’s OK, you can have another one? Never spoke to her again.

OMG, just as bad- when they bash their CURRENT significant other, and then suddenly they’re fighting in front of everyone. I always go in and comment “I hate it when mom and dad (or dad and dad, or mom and mom) fight…”

Oh, no, guys. I remembered another. This one is rather shocking. Unlike my previous one, which was a combination of “what the heck?” and “are you sure you’re not part of the problem?” 😉

I was working at my first real full-time office job, at the corporate office of a restaurant franchise. It was after the office move, so, late 2001 or very early 2002? I’d been there 6-plus years.

I walked back to give something to the executive assistant, and we got into a conversation. There may have been another female office-type there too, I don’t recall.

So we’re talking about celebrities and movie stars we find attractive. And I mentioned Will Smith. He’s good-looking, funny, and successful. Black? Who cares!

And executive-assistant-lady says something like, oh, not my kind of thing, then follows up with (exact quote here):

“I don’t believe in mixing.”

To hear someone openly say that, in our supposedly modern age… I’m pretty sure I just stared at her until I could make an excuse to go.

Everyone has their preferences, and that’s okay, but she really should have stopped before the “mixing” comment.

Yikes.

People who get involved in passive aggressive work place politics tend to piss me off.
For two people the exact phrases used get a bit techno babbly , but both were along the lines of “he told me to watch the pot of food as it boiled , and I did, it boiled all over and made a hell of a mess, he is incompetent I should have his job/his department should report to mine” type empire building nonsense.

Both seamed like reasonable people prior to that, but once the pressure came on over a few situations that didn’t go so well, the pointy fingers came out with that noise. Fuck ‘em.

What kind of test do you use?

They dont abuse them in any way (physically, mentally, or withholding sex). They arent a couch potato. They both do their share of household chores. They contribute financially. They are not a drain on finances. They keep up their appearance. Both agree on issues like children and religion. That sort of thing.

Any other issues were there when they married the person and come as part of the package.

Maybe it’s more doing than saying, but I had a (former) friend who complained to the management about the service we received at a restaurant I got taken to for a birthday celebration. At the time I thought “gee, the service seemed pretty _average_ to me.” The manager comp’ed her dinner. The next time I happened to have dinner with this same friend at another restaurant she complained about how the food was prepared…the manager at this restaurant comp’ed the meal. I thought at the time “maybe she’s just really high maintenance.” The third time this happened, though, I figured out it was just her standard M.O. …She ALWAYS complains at whatever restaurant she goes to so she can get a discount or a freebie.

By gaming the system she has undoubtedly saved herself some money, but at the same time lost much esteem in my eyes. I find her behavior embarrassing and won’t dine out with her anymore.

Geez, that IS pretty cheesy and embarrassing. I’d be tempted to keep going out with her for awhile. Make sure its a pattern. Then one day rat her ass out to everybody in earshot when she pulls it yet again.

I knew somebody that CONSTANTLY berated the wait staff. No matter what they did it wasn’t up to snuff. Any problems with the food (which were usually just plain made up) were as if the staff themselves had personally prepared it wrong just to piss her off.

I quit eating out with that person.

My sister in laws mother behaved that way, she embarrassed the living hell out of us in high school, she seemed to make it her personal mission in life to be a miserable hateful person to every service worker she encountered.
