The idea is when you are drinking something at the computer andsomething makes you laugh, you spit it out, ruining the keyboard.
BTW, I wonder what the first reference to “T&A” was. The first time I heard of it was–if you can believe this, and if my memory isn’t going wacko–on “60 Minutes” some years ago. Don’t remember the segment or who used the phrase, only that the host later said something like, “If you don’t know what “T&A” means, you’ll have to figure that one out for yourself.”
A previous phrase that apparently didn’t catch on was “R&B” for “rumps and bumps,” which was used in the 1977 Gary Collins/Victoria Principal classic “The Night They Took Miss Beautiful.”

My high school physics teacher was solving equations in class, and cracked us up when she told us that “All we have to do now is find T & A !” She realized what she’d said when we started laughing.
Here at work, we have a Service & Maintenance department. There are many computer files starting with S & M.
And I can’t forget my geometry teacher, who once was teaching us how to prove that one triangle was congruent to another triangle, with the Angle-Side-Angle (ASA) and Side-Angle-Side (SAS) methods. Then she asked the class whether the Angle-Side-Side method was a valid proof. One student replied “No, because we can’t use that abbreviation in class,” pointing to the what the teacher had written on the overhead projector.

I had an almost identical experience in my school, which was a conservative Christian public school. “Now we’re going to talk about Angle Side Side…err I should say Side Side Angle…”
