Possibly, but you’d think mama-scent would be a) Overwhelming and b) Preferred.

Individually, each sound may not be unique. But Pluto the spaniel’s repertoire of angst-laden whines, cries, yowls, lamentations and unclassifiable vocalizations when he’s anticipating breakfast and can’t _bear_ to wait another moment for his bowl, is unprecedented.

I would think that at two days old it would be preferred – I agree that at two days it’s unusual for a pup to leave nursing in favor of getting to a specific human; but dogs are a lot better than humans at scents, so probably also better at detecting additional scents even when one scent is quite strong.

> Last night my Korat cat Benny leapt over the tall foot-board of my bed to join me in slumber, as he does every night. Except, just as he was about to land on the mattress, he saw that our cat Coconut was sleeping on his landing spot. Benny hates Coconut. Coconut hates Benny.
>
> Benny actually defied gravity and all known physical laws of the Universe. He elevated and reversed direction in mid-flight, then scampered angrily away. I believe he entered a state of vacuum fluctuation that can only be explained by quantum mechanics. Let’s just say, if he ever climbs into a box, I’m not opening it. 📦 🐈

Now that I think about it, every cat I’ve had in my adult life has been a bag-licker.

I’ve seen it explained as a chemical similarity between the bag plastic and some of the components of meat fat.

No, it’s not merely _similar_. They actually literally spray the bags with a product that contains animal fat.

Today George (the cat) had an involuntary beer bath followed by a voluntary water bath. The only issue with his water bath is that the one who runs the bath who wants to get him clean, all he wants to do is swim around and splash like a hooman toddler with bubble bath.

I had to do three loads of towels after today’s adventure.

When I first read this, I thought Hubs was the name of your second cat. Brewing beer would indeed be a unique cat quality 😆

My meezers engage in recreational vomiting. Junior will eat an entire hair elastic, vomit up the elastic and stomach contents, and then look at me with a grin as if to say more please.

Simba loves to gorge himself on kibble, overdoes it, and then graces us with several piles of barely digested cat food puke.

And if that isn’t enough, my 13yo daughter (who has vomit cleanup duty) likes to let the piles of puke air dry for a few hours before cleaning them up, as it is easier to sweep them that way

I recommend doing your very best to keep him from getting ahold of them. They may have been coming out just fine so far, but it’s possible for rubber bands and similar things to get tangled up inside the guts, causing extremely serious medical issues.

My cat likes to crawl under my blanket and sleep sprawled out next to me when I get into bed. That’s not the unique part.

The unique part is that _she gets up when my alarm goes off_. Before I even have a chance to recognize what’s happening, she jumps up, crawls out from under the blanket, and leaps off the bed as if to say “Alright, time to do cat stuff now!”

Allie (my senior cat, 12yo Siamese mix) will frequently respond to me hitting the snooze button by coming up along the side of the bed to get cuddles. She insists that she be on my left side when being held, either when I’m still in bed or when she comes up to me on the sofa to ask for a hug. She’s not a lap cat.

Buddy (my junior cat, ca. 7yo generic basic cat with a voice that strongly suggests some Siamese in his mix) isn’t that thrilled about hugs, but tends to like plastering himself against my legs or rear end (I’m a side sleeper) when I’m sleeping, and is a lap cat. He’ll push my laptop aside when he wants my lap.

Loki, our oldest pup, enjoys being dressed up. She also likes to wear a coat when it is very cold out.

Awwww. Very cute.

The bell thing is a great idea. We just use a doggie door though.

My wife gets up first and takes a shower. While I’m still in bed our dog Jax always comes up for a tummy rub to start his day.

Bubba liked to stick his head in empty grocery bags. He didn’t lick or bite them; he just stuck his head in as far as it would go, then he’d press his head against the end of the bag and just look around through it. I don’t know what he got out of it but he really liked to do it. He did it for all his 19 years.

One of our current cats, Miss Ollie, loves to rub enthusiastically against the plastic that covers multi packs of toilet paper. Once the plastic is empty, she’ll take it behind the bathroom door and rub against it, wallow in it, and gnaw on it. She doesn’t react to any other plastic, just that on toilet paper. The brand doesn’t matter.
