What is the attraction of large coupes?

When the windows are down, maybe. Up, there’s that awkward seam.

I personally don’t like the appearance of most coupes and have always preferred four-doors. Though about 90% of my driving is solo, I prefer my sedan for both appearance and convenience (open door behind driver, chuck briefcase in the seat, extract with minimum of body contortions).

I will say that both the B and C pillars in my BMW sedan obscure my view on the driver’s side. I stuck some little convex mirrors on the regular mirrors after a few close lane changing calls

No, there is no B-pillar whatsoever on that vehicle. It is structurally a coupe, not a sedan with the rear doors replaced by body panels.

For some reason I keep reading this thread title as: What is the attraction of large corpses?

To which I’d say, if you have to ask, you’ll never understand…

Yes, a large coupe is basically a bad idea.

No, that’s FU, it’s a GT. I thought my Roadmonster wagon died last night and got to thinking lustful thoughts about a last generation Buick Riviera I saw for a reasonable price. Sadly, it looks like it’s just the distributor rotor and battery.

Hey, I’m old and fat and finally at the point where big ass Buicks are age appropriate, but not so old to prefer sedans.

It is no longer considered acceptable to refer to our mothers and mothers-in-law that way!

Right, IOW, two-door coupes are a spectacular example of image over practicality. And WRT your Mercedes post, I love most Mercedes designs and think they design some of the most beautiful cars in the world, but to me the big two-door coupes just look strange. And boy, are they impractical, but I guess that’s where the whole image thing comes in – like owning a silly two-seater where part of the message is “this guy must be rich enough to own both a toy and real car”. The only thing I hate more than two-doors is having to be in the back seat of one, which makes me quite literally claustrophobic.

First thing I thought of.

Big long legged guy here.

Nice long door easier for me to enter / exit in all circumstances.

Rain fighting an umbrella in heavy rain anyone?

Being old means no kids, no MIL’s, and no briefcases.

As much as I hate FORD, I would go for a 59 hardtop convertible just for dragging main street.

Also, tall doors or the kind that are part of the roof curve for ease of entry.

All you little people can have hard top Vets & Mustangs.

Open air = motorcycles for me. Love the doors on them.

I’ve often wished for a convertible but never owned one, but traditional practical cars and minivans + a motorcycle was always my choice. I used to love to cruise country roads on my bike late on a summer evening, where you’d feel the chill of the coming night in the valleys and the warmth again as you soared up to the next hilltop and caught glimpses of the setting sun. It wasn’t so much a feeling of open-air; the temperature sensations were a kind of unity with nature, and even as one who has flown airplanes, my wonderful bike was the closest I have ever come to the palpable feeling of actually flying like a bird!

For me, the smells are also a big part of it. Love me some fresh cut hay or fresh turned dirt.

When on my 2 wheel machines & it started to come to the palpable feeling of actually flying like a bird! I knew I was going to damn fast. Bawahahahah

Fly like a bird for me is certain aircraft in certain places where I can play.

I wish now I had done some skydiving as I am told that can really feel bird like. :smack:
