# What is the biggest/busiest message board

My modern message board experience is limited, but this one is by far the busiest one I use. However, I am not quite SDMBcentric enough to assume we are the biggest or busiest. Which board is?

Well, I don’t have any numbers available, but I suspect that it’s either slashdot or [About.com](http://About.com) . We’re certainly near the top, though: I think that all the boards larger than us use custom software, rather than a standard package like vBulletin.

Depends on what you definine as a message board.
All in all, it’s fairly clear Usenet is just a message board, and is far busier than probably every other message board put together. So I’d have to say Usenet.

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a site that listed a number of message board similar to SDMB. Does anyone know what that was, or was I just hallucinating?

I don’t think slashdot is a messageboard as much as it is a weblog.
From the ones I know from personal experience [anandtech](http://forums.anandtech.com) wins with 53720 registered users.

[eopinion.com](http://eopinion.com) probably would be near the top. One wonders why its so important to know which board may be the biggest as it could change anyday.
Usenet has to be the largest collections of message postable groups, with around 44,000.

If anything is a message board, Slashdot is. And it has registered at least 230,000 users. Of course, many of those are throw-away troll accounts.

Bugger … and there I was thinking I was an integral component of the globe’s intellectual elite, and now I find I’m actually just a dogsbody amongst a vast and raging horde of riff raff.

The newsgroup service I currently belong to has 83,000+ groups, although I don’t know what you qualify as a ‘message postable group’.
