What is the difference between liberty and freedom?

Very illustrating, thank you all. I get the impression when the article writes “attack citizens while depriving them of liberty, freedom and firearms” they are mocking the described party with a rhetorical flourish, they could just as well have written “attack citizens while depriving them of liberty, freedom, the prerogative to shoot bullets in the air and their God given right to evade taxes”.

To me, liberty is more general, while freedom can be general or specific. For example, I refer to “freedom of speech,” not “liberty of speech.” (There is “liberty to speak,” but that has a different meaning, meaning there’s no reason you have to keep something secret.)
