What is the first digit of your house number?

If I entered an answer in a poll but did not then post any explanation or anything else, is my answer to the poll linkable to moi?

Three digits, starting with a 4.

Broadway, which starts in downtown Buffalo, NY, keeps its numbering system going until it reaches the county line, which is about twenty miles away. The last house’s number is 13990.

I think most the houses I’ve lived in in the UK have been 2 digits starting with 1 or 2. One was a single digit (4) and one had a name, not a number. When I lived in Houston TX a house I rented for a bit had the number 123457. I bet the people across the street had problems with people thinking the address was made up.

Typo for 290 blocks, I presume? And in Cleveland and some (but not all) of its suburbs, that street would be called “West 290th Street”. Actually, some locals call streets that even if the suburb in question uses names instead: Warren Avenue in Lakewood, for instance, is sometimes referred to as “140th”.

Of course, the count of number of blocks is somewhat notional, since not every cross-street number gets used, especially not with bridges over rivers. For instance, one end of the Detroit-Superior Bridge is at W. 9th, and the other is at W. 25th.

Pretty interesting results so far. Switch 7 and 9, and we get the perfect ranking from 1 to 9.

Currently 1, 3 digits. Our last house was 7, one digit. Longest address I ever had was 5 digits, starting with a 1. The first 3 digits were the cross street number.

Are you cleared? Do you have Need To Know?

I’ve never lived somewhere with an address that started with 1 or 2. I’ve lived at two that started with 4, one that started 3, and one that started with 8.
