What is the GOP's long game on filling Scalia's seat if Hillary is elected?

What % of the world do you think would watch those hearings? What % would read articles about it? Forget about the world. What % of registered American voters would watch it or read about it? How many votes do you think it would swing to the Democrats in the next election? I can only imagine the number is quite small.

The GOP is history. These things are all just milestones, and they add up to what we already know and even Rs know inside. The old game is over.

The Dems don’t need those votes you are referring to.

Enough to cement the (true) narrative that the GOP are petulant children.

Yeah, the idea is to build the narrative that - just like with the government shut down and similar - that the GOP isn’t actually interested in the best interests of the country, just their party.

No one cares whether it’ll move the needle with registered Republicans. But it’ll cement a bit more D turnout and likely more a point or so of the independent middle. That could be enough to flip a Senator or two and maybe some Representatives. That’s a net gain even if the nominee doesn’t ever get a vote because it’ll help the next nominee get confirmed.

The Republicans are paying with fire here. But, while it used to be the Democrats, it’s now the Republicans who never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. They could easily lose the Senate in the fall. And the would deserve to!

Hahahaha. That’s the same ol’ rant by some in the Democrat collective. During Obama’s reign, the voters have spoken and the Democrats lost control of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. Which somehow proves to the yellow dog Democrats that the GOP is history???

Elected representatives require votes or they won’t be elected representatives.

Bernie and Trump have drawn large numbers of voters who seem to reject the SSDD politics of the political parties. ie the SSDD politics of millstones like Hillary.

No one would actually watch the hearings or read the articles. But they’d see the headlines on Facebook and the jokes on Jimmy Fallon that highlight the petulance of the GOP.

The Republicans are collectively playing with fire, but individually, each one is taking the obvious safe route. If you want to get reelected, you have to be able to stand in front of your constituents and say that you opposed Obama and the evil Democrats at every turn. The fact that collectively this is dragging the GOP into the dustbin of irrelevance is not their concern.

Maybe the GOP should embrace socialism a bit in their strategies.

Big changes don’t appear to the eye in one day. Keep watching this space.

This is the same as saying that last year was really cold, and last month my pipes froze, ergo man made global warming is a pinko plot.

It’s basically know-nothingism. Ever think maybe it is just this mindset that is dooming the Rs?

Your guys are debating the biggest fool on the planet, every couple weeks, and he’s having his way, in every way, including biblically, with them and your party, and they don’t even know how to land a solid punch. Dude, he is a balloon clown with sand in his feet! He was made to be hit, it’s his prime function! No wonder the Rs were mostly deferments in the 60s and 70s.

Their stated goal is to not even CONSIDER a nominee. I think that’s a lot of hot air.

Be interesting to hear the change in tone once it gets to “We have to resist any Obama nomination so Donald Trump can pick the next Justice”.

Stomping their collective feet and screaming “It’s not fair”?
