When I drink, I drink to get drunk. Don’t see the point otherwise. That said, I’ve tapered it down to about twice a month. Mostly because I’m getting old and hangovers aren’t as easy to shake off anymore. ---

I’m generally a rum and scotch guy. I have the rum shipped in from The Bahamas and scotch from, well, Scotland. I don’t drink to excess, or, actually, much at all. But I do insist that when I do it be very good stuff. Because my senior year in college a professor - who had already been told his contract wasn’t being renewed - made our final downing at least four glasses of his home-brewed ‘Louisiana Gator Punch’ which was maybe made with rocket fuel and alligator balls for all I know. Good Lord I felt terrible the next day. Just terrible. ---

I have an annoying head cold where the congestion, ache, and cough get worse as the day wears on into night and approached bedtime. Everclear. I’m on my third shot. I just described it to **allthegood** as “a delicate head, with overtones of winter wheat”. Dessicates my mouth to desert. You could probably run a car on this stuff. ---

Tequila. Well, wine and beer too, but I was drinking those at my usual pace of three drinks or so spread out over several hours, which would normally have me mildly-buzzed but not at all drunk. But it was the last night of a group tour of Mexico and Guatemala, and somebody kept ordering rounds of tequila shots for the group. I swear, I drank all of ONE shot, and then took a small ceremonial sip from the next two and passed the rest to the guy next to me (he was a 27-year-old Australian, so I figured he could handle it). And then went straight back to the hotel and passed out while writing my travel journal. Apparently I canNOT handle straight liquor. Put it in a margarita and I’m fine; go figure. ---

Hmm. In terms of having too much tequila. It’s not that I was hungover but… I was down in Cozumel and stopped at a tequila place. They had tours. The tour started with a sampling of five of their tequilas. So five smallish shots of tequila in a few minutes. Then a tour out in the fields and such in hot as hell weather. I may not have been drunk but my judgement was iffy. The tour ended at the bar - where another small shot was had - and then a chance to acquire some of their bottles. I came out with some really fancy stuff. My sales resistance was down. ---

That would be ‘ethanol’ and it was back in 1986. Whatever bottle was handy. Far too many were. I have not knowingly consumed any since. More for those who can consume it responsibly. ---

Probably at least thirty years ago, I was at our regular bar where my drinking had basically moderated from earlier days. Our lovely bartender would regularly indulge us with Frozen Daiquiris of the local strawberries & peaches I would seasonally bring back from local farms. She spent a long time in the kitchen prepping the fruits etc. They were fantastic but I don’t think I ever overdid any. One Saturday afternoon Mudslides were being discussed and when I said I never had, she whipped up a batch. So good! I drank them like milkshakes, one of my great weaknesses. That was the last time I was really inebriated, and was the first time in a long time. TLDR; Vodka, Irish Cream & Kahlua… ---

It’s a long time since I drank any alcohol but the last drink I had too much of would have been beer or Captain Morgan rum ---

Rum. I cannot ‘sip’ my drinks… I drink them, I’m also something of a lightweight for some bizarre reason. I love tropical and tiki drinks… this means that I usually down my first drink pretty quickly… get another and about half-way through that drink… BOOM the alcohol from the first drink hits HARD. There’s multiple time where I have been sitting there…and just realized “oh shit… I’m drunk!” ---

I’m a lightweight, and very careful, so my limit is two drinks. Lately I’ve been on a Dark and Stormy kick. Dark rum is magic. I used to like wine because it was easy to control and keep the pace slow, but then one time I was gaming and somehow managed to guzzle down a whole bottle of Pinot Grigio (it was like water!), and when I stood up I fell flat on my ass drunk, and spent the rest of the evening weeping and vomiting, and the next day with a hangover, which I hadn’t had since college 30 years earlier.
