_Missed edit window:_ The Wikipedia entry on _[Quantum Jump](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_Jump)_ informs me that despite being first released in 1976, and getting some fairly major airplay then, “[The Lone Ranger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hchOYs_d_Bw)” did not actually chart (reaching number 5) until it was re-released in 1979. ---

I cannot offhand think of any any examples, but I think it is a fairly safe bet that there have also been some songs mentioning [_Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llanfairpwllgwyngyll), which is quite a well known British place name, but, of course, it is not quite as long as _Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu_. 😃 Thank God for copy and paste! ---

Well, [here’s](http://www.lyricsmania.com/open_letter_to_jenny_lyrics_biirdie.html) a song by someone called Biirdie (sic) that uses the word “uncharacteristically”… at 20 letters, my vote for the longest word used “offhand” (i.e., not in a “look at this funny long word” sense, but just as a regular word). ---
