Some songs just rub you the wrong way. Bad lyrics. Heavy riffs. Overplayed (in its day)… So, what do you think is the most annoying song of any era that became popular, however you define that? Going back over a few years, I nominate: “The Politics of Dancing” “(My Girl Wants To) Party All The Time” “Mmmbop” Anything by Vengaboys or CrazyFrog… ---

The first two that came to my mind are “You’re Beautiful,” an absolute piece of dreck that was played to death on Russian radio back around 2006, and “All I Wanna Do (Is Have Some Fun),” which I was forced to listen to _ad nauseam_ when I worked on the radio a few years earlier. “All for One (All for Love),” “Ten Million Bicycles,” and “Don’t Give Up on Us, Baby” also have to be among the Top 10 worst songs ever recorded. Yeccch! 😠 ---

Tossup between the one about the pie (“MacArthur Park”?) and “Hey Jude.” I don’t doubt that there are worse ones that I haven’t listened to, or that didn’t register, but these two define “annoying.” ---

I like some of the songs mentioned quite a lot (Sweet Child O’ Mine, You’re Beautiful, All For One (All For Love), Hey Jude, We Built This City, What’s Up - I’m a big fan of soft rock/power ballads). Almost any song can become annoying if it’s overplayed though, so I get it. I agree Mull Of Kintyre is a dreadful, droning, faux-Scottish mess of a song. But for sheer irritation it can’t compete with Crazy Frog and Friday Friday. I think I’d give Crazy Frog the title on the basis that it’s pretty much intentionally annoying, and just when you think it can’t get worse, it does. I will be happy if I never hear it again. With Friday Friday you can at least laugh at the performers. ---

‘Like House of Pain was gonna do something’… _Jump Around_. Followed closely with anything by Heart, Stevie Nicks, Michael Bolton, Yes… the list of the unbearable goes on and on. ---

For me, I reach to change the station if I hear anything by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap or America. They peg my annoyance meter. Can’t speak to current stuff, and mostly I just listen to the classical station on SiriusXM. No real annoyances there. ---
