Not the best movie. Not the one that touched you the most deeply or the one that had you cheering the loudest. Not the best-written, -acted or -directed. Not the one that’s rewarded you with fresh insights over countless viewings. **Simply the one that gave you the most flat-out joy while you were watching it for the first time**. Mine would be _Pulp Fiction_. I don’t even think it’s Tarantino’s best movie, but its combo of dark humor, crazy violence and bizarre plot twists had me gaga from first minute to last. How about you? ---

For me, I’d have to say **Galaxy Quest.** Saw it as a kid before I had really even seen Star Trek, and thought it was one of the funniest movies ever. Still do. ---

Possibly the Coen Brother’s _True Grit_. It certainly felt to me like the perfect movie experience in every way, and was deeply, deeply satisfying in a way that no other movie I can recall has been. ---

Animal House. However, I saw it when it was first released and at the time it was something completely new and different and broke ground in movie comedies. Then it was imitated time and again, then new comedies broke more ground. So it can never be as entertaining to me now as it was at that time. Considering all the rest of the movies I’ve seen since it’s a really tough choice. Galaxy Quest was mentioned above and that’s certainly high on the list. I remember seeing Patton when it was released, I was 14 I think, very impressive movie but not exactly what I would call entertaining. I really like Raging Bull, it is certainly one of the greatest movies ever made, and the only time DeNiro really lived up to his reputation from my point of view, but still doesn’t quite get there. Another impressive and well made movie that is truly entertaining is Miller’s Crossing. It might need to be seen more than once to appreciate since it exists in a fictional time and place that seems familiar from the movies, but then isn’t quite what to expect. And yet I can still get a kick out of watching The Wizard of Oz and the real King Kong. So I don’t know, probably one of those. ---

I don’t know if I could name “most entertaining” but the most recent for me is _Knives Out_. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in and it was a complete delight for me. It’s in my pantheon of movies. ---

When I was young the Hustler with Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason struck a cord with me. It made we want to steal my daddies cue and make a living out of playing pool. Cant stop watching it whenever it comes on. Top Gun, Jurassic Park and Avitar were movies I paid to see more than once. To me that is a sign of something I really enjoy. ---

I saw two QT movies at their midnight premiere, Kill Bill vol. 1 and Grindhouse, and while KB is the obvious better movie, the audience participation/reaction to GH was incredible, the best random audience I’ve shared a film with, everybody just stood up and _cheered_ at the final shot. So it gets my vote as most entertaining movie experience. (“Random” meaning NO special viewings, Rocky Horror, 20th anniversary re-releases, etc. For example, seeing the re-release of _The Godfather_ back in 1997(?) was not with a random audience, but with an audience of _Godfather_ fans.) ---

If I sat and thought about it for a while, I could probably come up with several … but the first one to pop into my head was _The Princess Bride_. I didn’t even see it in theatres; a friend rented it and said we should watch it, because it was good. I went into it prepared to make fun of it (and my friend) for the stupidity and plain overall silliness of the movie, because I’d never heard of it and anything called “The Princess Bride” just HAD to be dumb, right? One of the most fun times I’ve EVER had watching a movie. ---

I can remember being blown away by “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and I still think it’s one of the funnest movies around. ---

**Star Wars** , followed very closely by **Blazing Saddles**. I saw SW 26 times at a first-run theater when it first came out. BS was the first movie to actually, literally make me fall out of my seat onto the theater floor(ICK!) laughing. ---

I tried - I really tried - but I can’t pick just one. Entertainment comes in a variety of forms that satisfy in different ways. When I was younger and had less refined tastes, _Blazing Saddles_, _The Creeping Terror_ (1964) and _Casino Royale_ (1967) were among the most entertaining movies I had ever seen on first (and subsequent) viewing, along with higher brow fare like _King Kong_ (1933), _The Third Man_ (1949) and _Touch of Evil_ (1958), among others. Now that I am older, for the “most flat-out joy” on a first viewing: _Kongo_ (1932) _Latitude Zero_ (1969) _The Battle Wizard_ (1977) _Swordsman II_ (1992) _Legend of the Liquid Sword_ (1993) - (NOTE: not as good the second time) I am sure I am missing a few hundred others. ---

I have a very distinct memory of walking out of the theater after seeing **“Die Hard”** and realizing that my t-shirt was soaking wet. Apparently my hands were sweating through the entire movie and I kept wiping them on my shirt. Now that’s an entertaining movie! ---
