So it looks like **Blazing Saddles** was spoofing a scene from **Treasure of the Sierra Madre**. ---

He was billed as “Gold Hat”, but we never hear his real name. The actor was Alfonso Bedoya, and “that movie” is [The Treasure of the Sierra Madre](http://us.imdb.com/Title?0040897). IIRC, he was called that because he had a gold hatband. ---

You can learn how to do this too. Go to: [http://us.imdb.com/search](http://us.imdb.com/search) This is the search page for the IMDb. On the left-hand side you’ll see an entry for “Extra Content” and under this a link for “Browsable Sections”. Click on that. On the page that that takes you to, look on the left-hand side. Click on “Quotes”. On the page that that takes you to, enter “stinking badges” in the box for quotes to be searched for and click on “Go”. You will get two quotes from movies, one from _The Treasure of the Sierra Madre_ and one for _Blazing Saddles_, just like in bordelond’s post above. Click on “Gold Hat” and you’ll get the page for Alfonso Bedoya. The IMDb is your friend. ---

FWIW, I don’t recall the character being named in the book, either, although I do recall the line is slightly different. If I can locate my copy I will confirm this. ---
