What is the oddest song/piece of music you've ever heard?

Art Bears - On Suicide

Pink Floyd - Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together and Grooving with a Pict

I used to find playing *Art Bears *LPs at the wrong speed produced even more fun sounds/songs.

Almost three pages of responses and nobody has mentioned Ladybaby or Babymetal?

Pink Floyd - Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together and Grooving with a Pict

Doh!..I was going to post that but my link went dead and I couldn’t remember what the title was.
About 20 years ago I worked with this really conservative, Christian, family values type guy. I played that track for him and his comment was “That’s what Hell is going to sound like.”

Ha, that’s cool. Japanese school girl speed metal with a little techno tossed in.

I heard that a few times from people who’d had a chance to listen to this.

I wouldn’t think to mention them, since I listen to J-pop and K-pop; they’ve got a higher threshold for odd.

Wrong in what direction?

I used to scare people with "hopes and fears"in college. It got a lot of hates. It was difficult as hell. But I just listened to an hour of this stuff, and Henry Cow, on you tube and I think it may be something I’m going to check out a lot of. Am i hallucinating it is this good?

I’m pretty sure that would be Ixtasis by Crash Worship.

I particularly remember Song of Investment Capital Overseasfrom *The World As It Is Today *. That record looked like a 33, but played as a 45. At 33, this song is about as menacing as it gets.

I’m a young one. More or less sums up my childhood.

I just remembered, and Googled “Altoona Kitchen Band”. They were a band made up of women who played various household objects as musical instruments, and were a staple of parades and similar events that called for a novelty act in the Des Moines area (Altoona is a bedroom community) when I was a kid in the 1970s.

Most of the links to this that I clicked no longer exist, so it’s a safe assumption that they are long defunct.

I hear lots of odd content in this thread. I contribute the following…

Frank Zappa was the first name to come to mind upon reading the thread title.

Odd weirdness in time signature changes…
“Inca Roads” by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention (1975).

There exists a plethora of oddball lyrics among Zappa’s 100+ albums. Here are a few examples…
Apostrophe Suite featuring “Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow”, “Nanook Rubs It”, “Saint Alfonzo’s Pancake Breakfast”, & “Father Oblivion”
“Camarillo Brillo”
“Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?”

+1. Zappa’s buddy, Captain Beefheart, often had oddball lyrics on top of cacophonic music…
“Old Fart at Play” is a prime example. Zappa produced and engineered the Trout Mask Replica album.

Odd silliness…
“Bike” by Pink Floyd during the Syd Barrett era (1967).

Oddball psychedelia…
“Koeeoaddi There” by The Incredible String Band

Odd soundscapes…
Absolutely Freak Out (Zap Your Mind!!) (album) by Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. Many other pieces by Acid Mothers Temple and various ensembles would qualify, too.

Oddball tunes with chart success as singles…
“Bull inthe Heather” by Sonic Youth.
“Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” by Crash Test Dummies.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen

Current 93 – *Faust *

Nuthin like the usual Midnight Special fare like Robert Fripp giving one of his patented erudite discourses on the premise of his music before actually engaging in execution of said music. I’m sure the average MS viewer would have greatly valued such a helpful treatise, and, accordingly, exploited such data as a framework with which to absorb, assimilate, and then finally, evaluate, Fripp’s looping soundscapes.:dubious:

An introduction to Frippertronics

Featuring the most unbelievable fucking sentence in the whole Sun Ra fucking universe, right at the very beginning of video:

Robert Fripp: “Thank-you very much, Rick James.”*
*Great - now I won’t get any sleep wondering - ok - seriously - how the fuck could someone like Rick James could have possibly introduced someone like Robert Fripp? That’s like…a tequila-soaked Gary Busey introducing Autechre. Or something.
“Hey - comin 'atcha…this cat’s from [shitty Brit accent] “the U-*ni-*ted King-dom”, and gonna lay down some crazy guitar stylins…”

?

This Canuck digs these crazy Scots a whole lot

Love the fucked-up time signature-y shit just after the 12 minute mark.

I’d go with Moondog Symphony (1949) or almost anything by Sun-Ra. Of course there are ten thousand weird songs.

Anything by Crispin Hellion Glover
