# What is the reason for the dieting plateau?

Why is it that when dieting, there is a point at which weight loss slows down or stops for a while, even if diet and exercise remain constant?

Also, keep in mind that your fat requires calories.

The less fat you have, the less calories you need. Ergo, the lighter you get, the more you will have to reduce calorie intake or increase exercise (calorie burn) in order to lose more.

In my experience, the last 10 pounds or so are a real challenge.

Well duh! if they wern’t a challege, they wouldn’t have been your last 10 pounds :D.

In addition to this, as you lose weight, you have less tissue to fuel.
