# What is the slow up with space exploration?

I don’t think that’s what **interface2x** was referring to, but I can’t imagine what it would be. There weren’t any shuttles at all until 1981 - and no American astronaut has ever died _while in space_. Maybe it’s a Russian mission you’re thinking of?
