And isn’t a waste of peoples time to jump into a post just to state that people are wasting other peoples time without adding anything to the OP? Just like I’m doing right now?
Lighten up folks.
I had to strenuously disadvise the use of QR codes on street signage relating to parking (I work in IT in local government) - the Parking service wanted to put signage all over the city detailing easy options for cashless payment - including ‘Scan this QR code to go straight to the parking payment portal’.
It would be really simple for someone to produce decent quality vinyl QR stickers (almost undetectable to someone whose attention is elsewhere) directing the user to some lookalike portal - either to take fraudulent payments, or just capture credit card details for identity theft.
iOS7 has one as part of the Passbook ap.
Since when has it mattered that an Android or iPhone has an out-of-the-box app for something, as long as there are ones to choose from the free list?
The idea that a smartphone can be all things for all users from the first power-up misses the point. If QR codes gain further traction, I suspect both OSes will bundle in the capability. Until then, it’s about one minute, start to finish, to install, say, QR Droid and read your first code.
