that makes more sense to me, too. Maybe the economic explanation was just the rationalization of the owner of a beer supply house.

I like Guinness and stouts in general, but Dragon Stout from Jamaica, I think, is absolutely vile. Also, any anything American is usually pretty bad, with the exception of Sam Adams; I’ve never had a bad Sammy (the first Cranberry Lambic was good 'cuz it had a nice tart taste. Every since though they’ve been too sweet).

Agreeing with **Zenster** about Sam Adams Triple Bock. Yee-_uck_!!! And I like Sam Adams. Guiness, too. But for “normal” beers I think Carling Black Label deserves a dishonorable mention.

Well, someone _else_ has suffered through a bottle of Dragon Stout! It’s a good thing, too; I never would have remembered the name otherwise, and considered myself fortunate.

Here in DC, we have the Brickskeller, a venerable institution devoted to bringing the beers of the world to Washington. Overall they do a fine job, but this one was one of the clunkers. Akin to Sam Adams’ Triple Bock in flavor and consistency.

First time I ever tried a Sam Adams (back in the early 90s) I knew I would never go back to mass market beer, so I can’t give a real opinion on any of them. Dragon Stout stands as my candidate for worst beer.

I have no beef with anyone who doesn’t like Guinness from a personal standpoint, but anyone says it’s a bad beer overall is gonna be taken out back and have six pints dumped over them. After I get through with them first 😉

I don’t know who said Guinness slows you down after 2 or 3 pints, but I never stopped that early. My personal best was 9 pints, but that was the first evening of a three-day weekend so I had all that time to recover. 😃

Re: Comments by Theuglytruth on generic “Beer” out of Calgary. This stuff was brewed by the Drummond brewery, who were actually located in the thriving metropolis of Red Deer, AB. I know this because my wife is from there, and it used to be pretty much the only beer available there. Drummond went under around 10 years ago, and their “Beer” is no more. It actually wasn’t too bad; we served it at our wedding (knew someone at the brewery who gave us a BIG discount). For a seriously vile beer, try Carling’s Black Label. I’ve had generic de-alc beer that tasted better.

_Red Horse_ beer from the Phillipines.

The stuff had **chunks** floating in it! (of what, I have no idea)

But I can only imagine that the previously-mentioned Dead Sea stuff would have given _Red Horse_ a run for its money…

I don’t think they even make that horse urine any more. It was tastless and aweful and very, very cheap.

Actually, I’m opposed to light beers in general, unless one uses them to chase shots, and even then I would avoid doing so unless there was no alternative.

> As for those slamming Guiness, I agree with the Stranger. You must get it on tap, preferably in a legit Irish establishment (they’re uncommon but not unheardof in the US). And while I enjoy a straight Guinness draught, I vastly prefer Black and Tans. When poured properly, a good black and tan can be a very soul affirming experience. \*\*

JBirdman-

A true Irishman would never drink a Black & Tan, which is the British version of the drink you mean: the Half & Half. A Black & Tan is poured with Guinness and Bass, whereas the Half & Half is poured with Guinness and Harp and is a beautiful experience.

I personally find Budweiser to be the King Of Crap. It is not the worst beer on the planet, but the fact that people willingly drink this swill on a large scale demonstrates to once again me the steady decline of human existence!

Good beers: Melbourne Bitters, Murphy’s Irish Stout (on tap), Harp, any truly micro-brewed IPA from the Pacific Northwest. Taj Mahal from india is not too bad either.

Significantly different than Draught, Guinness in a Bottle is made by the Labatt company in Canada, and therein lies the problem. Like Blue and 50, bottled Guinness has that strong terrible aftertaste that just won’t go away.

I was enjoying a can of Harp at a party a while ago, until someone dropped a cigarette butt into it. Then it was the worst beer I’d ever tasted.

Greene king is an evil brew

Most Welsh beers are terrible (except Double Dragon)which is only a bit undrinkable. I think this comes from letting puritans brew beer. It explains the rubbish you get in America too.

I tried just about ALL the shit you guys have mentioned. I dunno - I guess what I really hate is a beer that tries to be something it ain’t: Irish Brew Pub Stout from Olympia, Washington, well then it’s Olymia brewpub stout, aint it?
But the worst beer you’ve never had is made by my brother Danny, who used to make good beer until he was transferred to Atlanta, where they don’t have brewery supply shops. He tried anyway, bless his Wisconsin heart (BTW, our great great grandfather served under Douglas MacAurthur’s dad and burned Atlanta - and didn’t do a good enough job if you ask me). Some local Johnny Reb’s ghost got into the works and as a result his Atlanta beer tasted like Bondo.

I’ll go with nineiron with a flavoured beer. I used to do some work for a liquor store and was around one day when they had received a new sample. I’ve since blocked the name from my memory, but it was chocolate flavoured. There was a vanilla version too, but I had learned my lesson by that point. Momma raised no fools in my household.

Of course, I prefer a nice, clean cider anyday, so I might be biased.

Hey ya’ll, this is my first post, but this is a subject near and dear to my heart. The absolute WORST beer I ever had was while I was in Germany I had a Czech. made Budweiser. That was the most God awfull crap I have ever tasted. But, then again I don’t like any of the big American brews, I’d rather have something like Shiner Bock or maybe a Boddingtons if I feel like spending the $$$. Later…

T140–I can’t believe that you’re talking about Chezch Budweiser (Budwar) that way! I had it for the first and only time when I went to Germany (it’s not available in the States) and I absolutely loved it. It wasn’t the best beer I’ve had, but it had a great taste, not like Anheuser Busch’s version of Budweiser.
