I’ve got it…the [Panzerlied](http://www.homepurchaseprogram.com/panzerlied.html). It’s a catchy song, n’all. But there’s not a lot of ways you can work a Wehrmacht anthem full of lines about charging into the stormwinds within your steel armor, to die for the glory of the Fatherland, into a modern wedding. If I’m wrong, I’m not sure I want to know. ---

For the recessional march at my wedding, I picked the “Hallelujah Chorus” (organ only, no vocals) from Handel’s Messiah. When I explained the reasoning, my husband agreed with my choice - because we would be elated that the whole damned process was just about over. Let’s just say that we would have preferred quietly eloping, and my mother would have been fine with that, but my husband really wanted to stay in contact with his parents. So that was an appropriate song with inappropriate intent. ---

[hijack]Speaking of songs to dance to at the wedding, what the hell kind of songs do people use as their first dance, anyway? My fiance and I still haven’t figured out what we’d like to dance to, and I still haven’t decided what I should dance to with my dad. I’ve never planned a wedding before, and I’ve only been to two or three. I’m completely clueless.[/hijack] ---

What you want to do is look for DJs that have done weddings before. Meet with several and see what they’re like, what kind of suggestions they have, how much they’re willing to work with you on a musical selection. Our DJ got permission from another client to let us discreetly watch their wedding from the edges, so we could get a feel for how he worked. Actually, with any wedding vendor it’s important to meet with them in advance and sample their product if at all possible. ---

I agree that most of the songs that have been listed are pretty bad for weddings. I had a supercool DJ for my wedding. And the Music was perfect all night. He was really “intune” ha ha ha- bad pun with the group and if he played one song (that we approved) and people didn’t seem to be"comforatable" with it he didn’t play songs like that again. We did give him a list of definate list NO PLAY songs (ie brittany, boy bands, other pop princess divas, rap etc.) at my wedding… I walked down the aisle to “Someone Like You” by Van Morrison. Eric and I walked up the aisle to “You’re My Best Friend” by Queen and our first dance was to “I Cross my Heart” by George Strait. Our last dance was “In My Life” by the Beatles. I danced with my dad to “It’s a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. Eric danced with his mom to “Your Nobody Til Sombody loves You” by Dean Martin. I think the music was a huge success at our reception, relatives are still talking about it (had a great time, best reception etc etc blah blah :rolleyes: ) Erics’ Grandmother even loved it and had a great time (and this is a woman who does not like anything) 🙂 ---

Wow-I’ve actually heard some of these at weddings: **I Will Survive** : nobody seemed to understand why I thought it wasn’t appropriate. **Another One Bites the Dust** : this was requested by the groom at a wedding after the couple had lived together for several years and most people got the joke(although they’re divorced now so maybe it was a bad idea). However, my personal nomination is the one Meatloaf swears a couple told him with straight faces that they used for their first dance: **Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad** : _I want you, I need you, but there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you…_ ---
