What is this shower for?

“Whatcha burying there, neighbor?”
“Do you see the fence? This is an enclosed area so give me my privacy.”

Sounds like that neighbor needs to be introduced to the “work area.”

There are things i like about it, and things i don’t like. I like the living dining loft area, but i would rather there was a wall between the kitchen and that area, and no wall between the kitchen and the attached sunroom.

I hate the bowl sinks.

I like the beams and high ceilings.

I like the workroom, and the big open empty space that would make a nice dance hall.

I hate that bridge, too. It looks awkward.

Mostly, it’s about location, though. It’s not a place I’d want to live.

But if i did live there, i might use the “pet spa” to clean up after gardening. I’d install some hooks for my clean cloths, and a laundry basket for the dirty. (Okay, you don’t need to “install” a laundry basket.) The kids are grown, and i don’t mind if my husband wanders but while I’m showering.

Years ago, the husband of one of my mother’s friends was a civil engineer who often came home from construction sites covered in dirt or other mess. So they had a mudroom with an attached shower room next to the garage. He would undress there, shower and then change before entering the house. But that setup at least gave him privacy when doing so.

Speaking of weird plumbing set-ups, I used to rent a house that had a toilet in the entry room. It was the back door of the house but as you stepped inside the house there was a toilet on one side and a sink on the other. Which was strange.

But it actually made some sense. The house’s main bathroom was upstairs with the bedrooms. The previous occupants had an older relative living with them, who could not easily climb up and down the stairs, so they wanted a half bath of the first floor. And with the layout of the house, the only place they could put a toilet in was in that entryway room, which was adjacent to the kitchen and accessible to the plumbing system.

I have something similar for the same reason. To get to my backyard from the kitchen, I have to go through the half bath. Previous owners needed a first floor toilet because they had to limit stair climbing and the only place to put it was the pantry. Turned out to be handy when my kids were young - they didn’t have to go through the whole house to get to the bathroom.

A friend just moved from a house that had a combined bathroom/coat closet off the kitchen, right next to the entranceway. It was a little odd, but actually quite functional.

I think the usual term for these things is “vessel sink” and I don’t like them either. I was in a hotel once overseas that had them in the guest room, but had almost no counter space next to the sink. So I was awkwardly trying to find a place outside the sink to place my toothpaste and toothbrush.

I also don’t like the lumpy fireplace.
Man, I bet the owners of that place would love to read this thread.

link to the listing?

Those stairs are a Tragedy To Come

I have a shower in the barn. Well, outside it in a little stall.
Think Green Acres.

My husband put it there for himself.
I’ve used it after gardening a couple times. Awhile ago.

Daughter loves it for the boys. They so nasty coming from the pond.

It’s upthread

You mean the “River Rock” look in photo 7? I rather like that.

The balcony that runs from the bedroom to the bathroom (photos 8&10) and maybe beyond is a little weird. It’s too narrow to do anything but use it as a fire escape, or as an alternate bathroom entrance, and it obscures the view from both rooms.

It does have a lot of weirdly narrow, deep closets in the bathrooms. Looks like bad planning to me.

For good reason: sand will clog your pipes.

The whole house looks like it was designed by LLM.

Huh. Not bad ChatGPT, just some issues to be cleaned up.

What’s the proper height for feet? Floor-height.

Seems appropriately designed to me.

The AI-generated plans indicate the pet shower is inside a mudroom. Seems 100% sensible to me.

I don’t think you can tell in relation to the alarm panel because it’s so much farther away and the camera could be introducing some distortion, but on closer examination I think you’re right. Assuming an 8’ ceiling, I did some relative measurements in Photoshop and would guess that showerhead mount is around 5’7" to 5’9" from the floor, so pretty much exactly as you said. Still, if it’s for pet washing I’d think it would be lower so it’s easier to reach.

As for the house itself, I rather like the inside, but the outside looks really industrial, like it might be a small manufacturing plant.

I was going to say that the curtain was taken down so that the fixtures would be visible in the photo, but you’re right - there’s no place for a curtain to hang from. Odd
