# What is this thing? Stone flower blossum on top of an egg?

I found this object in a box of donations. It appears to be a stone egg with a flower blossum also carved out of stone (though it’s a different stone than the egg) attached at the top. A couple of symbols have been carved into the egg. Nobody has any idea what it is though my two Chinese student workers have said the symbols don’t look like anything Chinese they know of. Anyone of the diverse Dope have any idea?

Is there no way you can take a photo and post it?
How big? Solid stone egg? Any attachment points or other features? What kind of stone (color, texture etc)? What kind of flower?

Yeah, a picture or drawing of the symbols at least would be immensely helpful narrowing down its origin. At a wild assed guess I’d expect it to be something India-ish or thereabouts, but…

Yeah, a photo would be great. I did some google image searching hoping for something relevant so that I could snark that you need to keep it away from Gwyneth Paltrow, but no luck. ☹
(Sight unseen, I’m wondering if the “egg” could be a ripening fruit of some sort?)

Sounds like a candle holder, frequently sold in the touristy areas in Mexico and the Caribbean.

This thing can’t stand upright and it will roll, so I don’t think it’s a paperweight. Hopefully I can get a photo up when my student workers come back.

What kind of stone is it, what color, and does it look like it’s been polished to make it look decorative?
