What is this type of story/movie called?

Wikipedia calls them parallel novels.

Coupling used this device frequently.

Ender’s Shadow.

Not to be confused with the others:

Shadow of The Hedgemon
Shadow Puppets
and
Shadow of The Giant.

That follow after Ender’s Shadow.

And as I recall, Ender’s Shadow used the term “Parallel Novel”.

That’s similar to [urk=Sliding Doors (1998) - IMDb]Sliding Doors which show how the main character’s life is diverges over the simple act of either catching or missing a subway train. It came out earlier the same year as Lola rennt, but I would assume the two production companies didn’t know of each other’s projects.

The film 11:14 tells the story of a car crash that occurs at that time one night from five different points of view.

Mystery Train by Jim Jarmusch takes the same time frame over and over from multiple POVs. I think you’re thinking of something like **Grendel **by John Gardner, though.

Ultimately, aren’t all war movies (esp. ones that cover WWII) sidequels?

Holy crap, I’m reading this thread and every time I think of a great example, it gets mentioned.

So, okay, I’m left with wondering where something like Sondheim’s Into the Woods would fit into this category? Or Hoodwinked, for that matter? Both mutiple versions of one story, that takes place within the various realms of other established fairy stories.

(it’s been a long day, this is the best I can come up with.)
