At least, I think it’s a vegetable.

I enjoy going to Lee’s Sandwiches every chance I get (Californians may know the chain) and every time I go I have to get their [BBQ pork](http://leesandwiches.com/2008/main.php?act=prodetail&catid=8&id=sw_6) sandwich. I tend to pick out the cilantro and what I presume are thin-sliced jalapeños, but the rest of it I greedily wolf down.

I can identify most of what goes into the sandwich except for the white veggie that’s cut like the carrots. In the picture I linked to, it’s the bit sticking out just under the carrot. I’m pretty sure it’s not onion, but it has a sharp, almost spicy taste to it and it snaps like a carrot. I almost want to say it’s a tuber instead of a veggie. Anyone know?

Parsnip? Or a white radish? (Wild guesses; I’m not familiar with the chain.)

Maybe Jicama? Are you familiar with that?

I would say radish, which is commonly found in Japanese (Asian) cuisine. Daikon…why don’t you just ask Lee’s Sandwiches what it is?

Radish! I’m pretty sure that’s what it is, actually. I just could not think of the name.

As for asking them…I honestly hadn’t thought of that. :o

You could also ask that they leave out the cilantro when making your sandwich.

Yeah, that looks like some slices of daikon. Mmm.

Yes, it’s pickled daikon (radish); the carrot is pickled as well. Lee’s is fantastic, and I remember seeing they also have a huge shop in Houston. Now I’m wishing I was back down near a Lee’s.
