I remember reading an article that categorized them as “L.A. hardcore”. How Los Angeles is able to produce it’s own version of hardcore, I know not. “Hardcore” is used to describe bands like Fugazi, Bad Religion, Husker Du (don’t know how to do umlauts), Refused, and other bands typically identified as Punk.
AllMusic puts them in the Alt Metal category.
