What is your favorite book whose viewpoint differs from your own?

I might as well go find out where to turn in my ‘woman card’, because I have to say any romance/ chick-lit/ bodice-ripper/, or sex n’ shopping novel. The Flame And The Flower. The Frog Prince. Harlequin romances, Danielle Steele. I’ve read a few, and enjoyed some, but even though they’re fantasies and supposed to be fantasies, I just can’t help thinking “bogus! would never happen in real life! torn between two fabulous men - I WISH! Hot air balloon ride in France - phht!” All that fantasy directed to women is just too silly… It’s why I stopped reading Cosmopolitan magazine, after many many years - I actually believed if I did what some of the articles told me, I would be a Cosmo girl with an exciting life and gorgeous rich men vying for my attention. Sadly, no, it was all just silly wanking for women.

Peter Hamilton is pretty obviously liberal to the point of being an out-and-out socialist and anti-capitalist, but I really love the characters in his SF and get absorbed in his labyrinthine plots.
This is most clearly the case in his Night’s Dawn books, but I still couldn’t put them down.

If the OP is a conservative I would suggest reading (and watching via Youtube) Christopher Hitchens. I largely disagree with the guy philosophically, but man, can he ever make me stop and think. I just love the guy.
