What is your favorite trivia question (and answer)?

Jimmy MacDonald and Wayne Allwine were the only two people who voiced Mickey Mouse on a regular basis besides Walt Disney himself. (I’m discounting Carl Stalling, who may have done the voice in one short and Chris Diamantopoulos, who is the current voice.) What did the two of them have in common?

They both got their start in the sound effects department at Disney.

Speaking of Mickey, Minnie’s voice in the more recent (post 1970’s) cartoons were done by Russi Taylor. What did she and Wayne Allwine (Mickey’s voice) have in common?

They were husband and wife.

In that order??

That made me research something, which turns out to be true:

Danny Seagren, in The Electric Company “Spidey” shorts. The first one was October 21, 1974.

I wouldn’t have gotten the name right, but I knew the gist of that answer without hesitation or doubt.

On the “A” side of a standard 45 RPM record, what is the average number of grooves?

Every 45 RPM record (and every standard vinyl record) has the same number. 1 continuous groove from the edge to the middle.

One of my old favorites is now obsolete:

“What is the only commonly-circulated US coin that bears two depictions of the same President?”

Used to be, the answer was the penny: Lincoln is, of course, on the obverse, but the reverse with the Lincoln Memorial, if you look closely, has the statue of Lincoln in the middle.

Of course, this is now obsolete twice over: Because pennies no longer show the Lincoln Memorial, and because there are now at least two quarters with an image of Washington on the reverse (the state quarters for New Jersey, with Washington Crossing the Delaware, and South Dakota, with Mount Rushmore).

In which episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, do we see Sulu in the captain’s seat? And given that Kirk and Spock were both on the bridge at the time, and Scotty was on the ship, why was Sulu there?

“Is There in Truth No Beauty?” and Spock had been driven insane by the sight of a Medusan, and he knocked Sulu into the seat while Sulu and other crew were trying to restrain him.

What was the winning percentage of the 1927 Yankees, known for their Murderers Row of sluggers, including Babe Ruth, who hit 60 homers that year?

How many intentional walks did Roger Maris receive in 1961, the year he hit 61 home runs to break the Babe’s single season record?

0. It helps to have Mickey Mantle batting behind you.

Mine too.

What is the only state in the US with no commercial airline service whatsoever?

Used to be Delaware, but now Wilmington has service from Frontier Airlines, so that is no longer true.

Come to think of it, maybe that’s why President Biden likes Amtrak so much; at one time they were the only transportation link to his home state.

How many times does Lincoln appear on the penny?*

Twice. If you squint you can see him, seated, between columns of the Lincoln Memorial on the obverse side. The *refers to them changing designs of late, but on that version with the Lincoln Memorial he’s in there.

You know siblings, who have two parents in common…and half siblings, who have one parent in common. But what’s a 3/4 sibling?

I’ve posted it elsewhere in SDMB, but if two marry and produce a child, and the father dies, and his brother takes his place and they have another child…I guess this was common in some cultures, even some Christian cultures. The children from the second marriage would be 3/4 sibs, genetically. See also: horse breeding.

How is the penny different from the nickel, dime, and quarter in US coins (and the answer has nothing to do with copper, color?

Lincoln faces the opposite direction—to the right instead of left, like the rest.

How many grooves does a 3 minute LP record have, at 33 RPM?

Just 1…a long, continuous groove

You didn’t read posts 233 or 234, did you?

You would have to give a reason why it points to the north–or to the south–of the center. My point was that the oblateness means that the perpendicular to the level surface (which is where a plumb line points–that’s a theorem) does not point to the center.

Here is another of my favorite trivia questions. What is special about Feb, 12, 1809?
